Though "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" bears some resemblance to earlier texts and music, it is an original composition by composer John Kander and lyricist Fred Ebb for the musical Cabaret (1966). It is meant to sound like a Nazi anthem, and it is sung by characters (a waiter in the play, a member of the Hitler Youth in the film) who represent fascist ideologies. If a group or individual performs "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" as a stand-alone number, they would be understood to be pro-fascist. Some such groups have indeed adopted the song, though this was obviously not Kander's and Ebb's intention. Note: Wikipedia says that, in the film version of Cabaret, the song is sung by a "boy soprano." At the time of filming, Oliver Collignon, who played the part, was 14. His voice was dubbed by Mark Lambert, who was 19.

a more fitting picture (given how this song was intended in "Cabaret") would be a view over a soldiers graveyard, over ruins and the remnants of war in pictures from Germany in 1945. Or one of a KZ-memorial site. This picture (while of course fitting because it is an Nazi propaganda foto) is too idyllic.

Das war nie ein Nazisong, das wurde für den Film Cabaret komponiert, drückt aber die damalige Stimmung wirklich gut aus.

@@TheShelhaIt’s an anti fascist song used by the nazis in Cabarwt. It’s written by a gay jew. It’s written to sound like a Nazi song, but is a way better song than anything the nazis could make themselves

LOL, that urban myth has been circulating for a while. It was written for Cabaret by a gay Jewish man - a musical warning of the dangers of nationalism. It used neither an existing tune or existing words, but was created from scratch as an example of the type. You keep enjoying it though, sweetie, and don't forget to wear your nylons and garters while you dance to it.
