Funny thing about this scene, and really this entire film, is based on stuff that really happened. General Weidling is accused of moving his command center and is told that he will be shot. He goes straight to Hitler's bunker telling the guards that he's there because he's supposed to be shot, then tells the nazi leaders about what was actually going on. He ends up, instead of being shot, being put in command of Berlin's defence. XD
@aaronblaylock20928 жыл бұрын
that general had guts. l admire his resolve and steadiness in the face of being condemned go be shot and still showed up to set every one straight on what was going on.
@BarsYesilcicek8 жыл бұрын
Another trivia is that this part of the film is really based on the memoirs of Siegfried Knappe. He is the one in the fictional scene where he jumps on General Weidling to save him from the shelling. He then goes to the Führerbunker with Weidling and witnesses the whole questioning of Weidling by Krebs and Burgdorf. That part is a bit different in his memoirs but overall great, great job done by this film. You can read Knappe's memoirs in his book "Soldat".

Like most German made war movies is this one of the few realistic and better about the war. Another VERY good film is 'Unsere Vater, Unsere Mutter' about five ordinairy Germans and how they all on there own way were caught up and victim of there time.
@Emanresuadeen6 жыл бұрын
TOm Naz-E: I wouldn’t put Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter (“Our Mothers, Our Fathers”, aka “Generation War”) on too high a pedestal, just because it’s German made and the actors speak German. It’s been justly criticized for it’s ahistorical portrayal of “ordinary Germans” as if they were 21st century Millennials dropped back into the 1940’s. The reality is that were actually a highly politicized generation, to put it mildly. And to say that they were “victims of their times” is just asinine. Der Untergang aka “Downfall” is an entertaining dramatization, but this problem is actually worse here. Almost all of the characters portrayed in a sympathetic light, Speer, Fegelein, Mohnke, Günsche, Weidling, Dr. Schenck, were hardcore SS members, Nazi fanatics, and often bona fide war criminals. Even Himler is portrayed sympathetically. There is no mention of the Holocaust, Jews, their war of extermination in the east, although this was entirely central to their ideology, and their war aims. This is extremely ahistorical, and is as much bullshit as anything Hollywood ever produced.
