Keep adding trains for more variety and fix the speed limits. I've derailed so many times when the limit is higher than the bend you can take. Make it so the signs are more clearer, spaced out evenly, give you plenty of time and warning for the bends. In some areas of the map the limit is 80-70 to a bend which is 40 and unless you know the area you fly around it and derail instantly with little warning.

I'm the opposite. I'd rather a large substantial update that contains enough changes to be worth playing, than the what has become standard early access dripfeed of weekly minor updates. Not to mention it encourages faster development to not have to push builds, market, and fix them every week. And in this specific case they were forced to release the game in a earlier state than intended by financial circumstances. A big rerelease executed as well as this seems to be, is like a second chance on release day sales, assuming they can get the word out.

I have this same problem and you might want to do whatI did. Go to zennioptical.com and create account. Zenni Optical is the best source for glasses. Watch their reviews on KZbin and online. Instead of paying $500 for prescription glasses, take your prescription from your optometrist and you can create own prescription at Zenni. You can upload your face photo and preview all frames on your face - on the photo. For glasses with all blows and whistles you will pay $125. Many times better quality than from your local optometrist store. There are many options when comes to lenses index, coats, etc., so I pick around $75 and I don’t care if I get them scratched or drop, or loose them. Anyway, back to VR. I picked circle frames - Round Glasses 450021- prefect circles $9.95 per frame, , solid, and not to wide so they nicely fit in HMD. Based on my optometrist advice, for lenses I picked from my prescription only the part for far vision which is the upper portion of bifocal lens. Not the added number i.e. - NV-ADD +2.5, which for reading - the lower part of lens. So my glasses are single vision. In options, I added just basic coat which is included with price and my whole glasses cost me under $20 including shipping. Those are my vr glasses only, exclusively for playing VR games. I hoped that helped . Btw, OTC reading glasses are not good for vr because you need the far part , not the reading, plus, most important, you will not find circle frames which are perfect for VR helmet. Cheers and happy Derailing. I can hardly wait until May 21st. One more thing: year ago, at Etsy.com I bought lenses mod for my vive. No screen door effect, no distortion, and no need to tweak configuration files. Although it costs between $70 and $100 but it was worth it to spend the money. It is a good upgrade of vive helmet. Those circle glasses and the mod which is replacement for original vive lenses , both fit nice - glasses on your nose off course and the lenses mod in the helmet. I mean when you put it on your head everything fits. Playing games on new level. I am not affiliated with zenni nor Etsy. I am just a player and I am sharing my experience.

Progression and a reason to earn money is key to this I think. Especially end game, once you unlock all licenses and buy all locos or w/e there needs to be a continuous reason for earning money. Insurance and fees is 1 great way to do that!

Oh, giving you a head's up in case anyone else has any trouble regarding mods... maybe with the auto-deletion of the save with Overhauled update will fix all of this, but after reinstalling 2x, finding and deleting the save (which I thought was going to be gone anyways uninstalling) was the last step I ended up taking, and only then would Derail Valley work. Unity Mod Manager : Uninstall every mod, if one does not (some would not), delete the folders, even go to 'Browse local files' and delete from local mods folder, unless it's a livery mod, it may be incompatible with overhauled anyways... even then, if Devs changed format... (maybe they didn't) On game selector, select Derail Valley, and Click Uninstall button, then select different game, just to not have DV selected. Uninstall, then reinstall game. Delete saved game. Now my game is baseline, and even if I have to uninstall and reinstall after update drops, at least I can say at this point, it's working and without any mods.

Well not sure I'm going to be 100% into the new economic model, seems it could be very easy to get in a loop where you could never clear your debts and costs. Maintenance etc. should fall to the "company" owning the railway to pay, not the individual driver. I'm assuming this also means the locomotive persists so you can't just abandon the one off the inward working and spawn a new engine on the outward train. How often will "maintenance" be required and will there be more than one depot where you can refuel and service the locomotive(s) not having to travel halfway across the map to do so?

The insurance mechanic is there to break the loop, especially in early game. The locomotive stats will persist, yes. You maintain the locos whenever you feel like - it's up to you when you want to clear/pay your fees. If you leave them long enough to despawn instead of servicing them manually, you'll need to pay twice the cost. Repair depots are present at all large stations.

@@altfuture Thanks for responding. We will have to see how things work out in practice but I just hope it does not make the game too complex and put some players off. Personally I would rather have seen the development time on that go into implementing diurnal (day/night) effects or seasons and changeable weather, for a real challenge working the trains. (And a map/route editor!).

The insurance copay is useless, when you avoid crashes. After purchasing one license, you'll have to use manual service, if you want to make more than a thousand dollars per haul, especially early game, when you don't make much, since you only have a small weak shunter locomotive avaialable.

"You are required to pay all fees before..." Ah, I see now. That's what you (or another member of the team) were hinting at, but couldn't disclose until the video. I think (paraphrased) "We figured a way to handle that," is as close as I remember. Also, since new licenses cause your copay to go up, it definately makes sense to pay them off at a lower copay value. I'm certain someone will get mad that they have to pay them off first... but that same person would also get mad when they were to find out they were wasting money paying a higher copay, if paying them off first, was not a requirement. But this brings another question: What if they've hit "end game" and already have all of the licenses? Something I noticed that wasn't mentioned: That also means that you have to do the missions faster with the new license doesn't it (for the bonus pay)? Since it decreases the time for the bonus. That was cool seeing how much the steam engine could haul... Trying to learn that through trial and error can get costly with the new system. Hope the license you get when finishing the tutorial (if it works like before) will tell you what the shunter's (or whichever is the starting one) limits. The fee, and insurance system, is in line with how I describe Derail Valley. New player friendly, allowing one to learn/play at their own pace. You can challenge yourself, for greater rewards, but you don't have to keep replaying the same mission over and over to "get the gold," just so you can advance to the next level. In DV, finishing a mission in 10 min, or 10 min and 0.000001 sec might mean the difference between a few bonus bucks, but you're not prevented from progressing... just do another mission, whichever one _you want._ Sure, it'll take a little bit longer, but as long as you're having fun, in the end, that's all that matters, isn't it? Still hyped for the update. ^.^

Hi, I'm not sure. We do have one tester who's an avid Linux user, and he might very well be playing Overhauled through it.

I can't speak for Overhauled as I'm not a tester, but the current release of DV works quite well in non-VR mode on my Manjaro system with an AMD graphics card. If I remember after the update drops, I'll leave a comment telling you how Overhauled runs as there have been some performance related hiccups on Proton 5.0. (In my experience, it runs best on 4.11) If not, check protondb a few days after the update for a report from my YT username, there's already a couple up for DV. I plan on leaving an updated report once I've had a few hours of fun in Overhauled. :) I also cannot test it in VR atm, don't have a VR headset yet but the game is that good in nonVR that I wanna get one just for VR!

@altfuture I have a question about the liscense to the new diesel loco; do it require the steam loco's liscense as a *prerequisite* ? If no, then I guess _there is a catch_ with it, such as it requres *2 or more times the money* to buy right? _riiigghhhhtt_ ??? :) Also, that speed limit at the begining (of the video, around 0:50) feels a _little bit off,_ but just maybe the track right next to the speed limit sign, is a bit too tight of a corner. Also, Also, I see someone *_bumped up_** the prices of the **_SH-282 liscenses_** 2.5 times* ( *_or more_* ; I don't remember the old price off the top of my head); _rriiiigghhhtt_ ?? :) Oh well, it is propably _more ballanced_ that way.

Do certain jobs never spawn with car count within the "no train length liscense" range of cars (or in other words, does one need that type of liscense to unlock new types of jobs, or all jobs can spawn with a car count below that limit)?

Is it possible to technically hit a bankruptcy scenario? Say co-payment is 100,000 and you have 50,000 in cash, then you destroy a train that is worth 1 Million. I've noticed that the game will not allow additional jobs to be taken when you have a high amount of fees. With this logic this scenario would be a game over. Or does the game allow you to take jobs until you can meet your co-payment and then cut you off from jobs until you pay insurance? (Normally would find out myself, but I already am probably around 20+ hours deep into Overhauled and don't want to flush that time down the toilet).

It's not possible to hit bankruptcy - the game will only prevent taking new jobs if you're hoarding money and having debt at the same time.

Game has a lot to love and I've bought it, though I'm seriously put off by all the paper work! Love trains, hate accounting. In between manual and book juggling and reading track layouts or finding numbers on carriages, I might eventually find time to drive a train....no,who am I kidding... I've got insurance jargon to figure out now. All this is a different job from train driver. This is more stockyard controller the sim. There should be a setting to delegate this stuff.

I couldn't afford to rerail the car as I had just bought the long train 1 license. And I was very careful with the train. I couldn't do anything. Deleted the save and started again. Needs to be a way to skip the tutorial. Haven't been interested enough to really try again.

The shunter is a ŽS series 621, the steamer is a generic Mikado, with some European design clues, and the Big Diesel is a mix of an EMD G16, and export EMDs in general, with a GE export Uboat, like a U20C, with bogies/trucks that looks from a electric ASEA engine.

Wait. I don't get it. Maybe it's because English is a second language for me. So. Your copay for your insurance is what you actually pay in case of an incident? So what are the real fees for? Why are there two prices of which only one matters? And if insurance is optional, why would I even consider not having insurance? I'm rather confused.

Insurance is a really great idea in case you weren't able to ever make your train to the repair or fuel station in case of an accident. So when it comes to insurance it will give you the whole price markdown, however the insurance will cover a big chunk of it, granted that you are covered and all you have to pay is the co-pay which is signficantly lower than the whole break down of the price. Fees are to make sure you keep the insurance, co pay is to pay off any oopsies you may have made such as "oil tanker exploding to smithereens due to derailment." That is insurance in a nutshell.

@@LarryMyster Yeah, I mean, I know how insurance works in real life. I just don't get it why it's portrayed in the game in such detail. As I already mentioned before: Why would I even consider to not take the insurance in the first place? Because that way there is always two numbers, one that is friggin huge and tells me "You've done this much damage", and an another one, which says "Here, that's what you actually pay". Why is there a need to have the first cost displayed then? Or did I miss something here?

I think it goes down to a new player can wreck something and be in a shit load of debt without the copay, but as you progress in the game with new licenses the copays get larger to maybe half the cost of the damages. I also don't know if its optional? But it makes it so mistakes are more expensive down the road.
