Derby Carriage and Wagon Works Annual show 1960 (rare cine film footage of Derby)

In this film you can see some footage around Derby town centre filmed on Saturday August 20th 1960.
At 00:48 Prepairing the car outside Allsop Garage (Brailsford) on Bold Lane. In Jan 2012 this area is cleared of former Prince's supermarket.
01:07 The Wardwick Melias ltd, later this shop becme Golden Gains, in Jan 2012 this is nono8 bar.
01:13 The Ice Factory, today this is occupied by the cock-pitt car park.
01:18 St James Street.
01:23 Corn Market
01:27 St Peters Street
01:34 ??
01:44 Full Street. Derby Power Station in the background
01:48 Council House
01:57 driving towards Cock Pitt Hill
02:00 Derby Carriage and Wagon Works
This short film is one of several which I was kindly given by local Derby film maker Arthur Blood. Arthur captured many local events of the time, mostly relating to the Derby Carriage and Wagon Works where he worked.

Chap in brown overall at 2-15, 2-27 and 2-35 is Frank Skidmore who I lived next door to in Shaftesbury St , he was the gardener at C& W.and I used to help him , it looks like me walking across the background.aged 16.

What's interesting about these old films is the virtual complete absence of foreign cars on the roads, fast forward to say about 1973 and it's a different story, thanks for the upload.

i got into 8mm projectors again last year and my friend gave me some films...i found this one one of them...after doing a bit of searching i think its about 1965-7 making way for the then eagle center..there is great bit where you can see st peters church and the guy is standing more or less where eagle center market is now. i need to redo this again shot it on my mobile phone. derby 1960's

The chap at 2.27 in the brown overall "could" be my grandad. We just can't quite make out if it is. He worked at Loco though, not Carriage & Wagon so not entirely convinced, but he did do a lot of flower competitions according to my Dad.

Emily, ask your dad if he knew my dad, Phil Newbold, a driver at 4 shed? My granddad worked at the C&wagon and he showed Dalias and chysants.

mick newbold Unfortunately my Dad never worked for the railway, he's had a good look at this video and he's not convinced it is his Dad, George Nelson. George worked at Loco and not C&W so it's likely that it isn't him ... although it's a close likeness.
