A 3 kg steering servo to a 2,8kg total weight car. Could this be considered a general rule for estimating the appropriate servo for each car, where the servo's power in kg should match, or be above, the car's weight?🤓

Your entire video just demonstrated why I never go near nitro RCs. It's just a different world of volatility, tuning and messin around with what's supposed to be life sized engineering bits scaled down to what's practically a toy. I can see why you would get into it with your background of engines and such - would be nice to see how far you could take it

You can't beat the sound of a Nitro RC! I have a few of them now and even though there's a bit of a learning curve to get them tuned right, once they are set up, they are a lot of fun to bash around. Just make sure on full throttle you don't run em too lean or goodbye motor 😂 i always like to run em a bit rich so i see smoke on WOT and haven't killed any engines 🤟😎 running them in properly as well helps the longevity and reliability of those nitro engines! i plan to take mine out more soon since we are heading into summer soon here!

I agree! Super cool sound! I even asked two of my neighbors and neither of them heard a thing lol. Almost sounds like a gas weed eater anyway. I used to drool over nitro cars as a kid in the late '90s/early '00s. I never would have expected electric to get as good as it has. I'm still pretty tempted to get one just to live that experience I couldn't afford. I'm also surprised how affordable they are now. That said I have gone from zero cars to 4 in the last month, so maybe I'll give it a breather.

I did too as they used to have nitro races on a parking lot near me. Probably in the late 90’s. Then they stopped and I kind of forgot about it. I like for enough to keep going for sure but electric is definitely where it’s at lol

I enjoyed your test and review. I understand the frustration that you and a lot of people go through when they get into nitro. They are fun and the sound is neat. For me the big problem of nitro is the cost of the fuel. This is an excellent review and will help people thinking about nitro.

20 quid in AA batteries to use it was what made me not use it anymore. Plus the cost of nitro, the mess but they are coolio when they work. Problem is the noise and how much time you spend faffing about trying to get them to run rather than just switch it on an enjoy. Welcome back to the 90s! Some tips: - To shut it off quickly just put your finger (or something less burny) over the hole in the exhaust pipe. You also want to do that and pull the rip cord a couple of times to prime the fuel system then go for a first start. - You should adjust the idle screw first so it idles nicely, and dont think it idling slightly high is aporblem. AS long as it pulls away ok when you plan the throttle. When i started, most of my issues were trying to have it ruuning quiet which basically meant i could never start it as it was usually fuel starved or back then the glow pulg starters yo uused were shit and were always going flat way too fast. - make sure you haven't turned the idle screw down too much as it will die once you are braking and stop. Not enough fuel. - Then once done, then do the top end screw to ensure it isn't running lean (not enough fuel). You want about 8-10 inches of noticeable exhaust coming out when its at full throttle (that was always what worked for me anyway). Anymore and it'll be rich likely bog down when you try to accelerate any less and you'll destroy the motor as it'll overheat. Just a couple of quick tips. - You also need to break engines in. This is REALLY important. I used to do one tank and keep it at 1/4 throttle, let it cool completely. Then do a tank with 1/4 to 1/2 throttle, let it cool completely. Then one at 1/2 with burst to full. Then you should be ok to run a normal tank with some brisk driving. After that you can go as gung-ho as you want. - def don't leave fuel in it as it will also cause the rubber hoses to degrade over time.

@@DerbyCityRC anytime my man, love your videos and like to comment and help out where i can. My experience is hopefully less frustration and initial pain on your part. First, if you are having running issues always check the screws are at factory settings then try again. Only then start fiddling else you'li will be making it worse before it gets better and for most novice users it wil ruin the whole experience. Back in the day often the screws were off from the factory settings (crappy QA basically) so you'd adjust one thing that wasn't actually the problem in the first place, then you get into a spiral of troubleshooting rather than using it. If you do need to tweak them don't do more than 1/8 of a turn before retrying. They are very sensitive so anymore you can easily over shoot and end up with the opposite problem you initially had (which if you don't have the experience you may not know how to gauge lean/rich. Then you end up going backwards and forwards with the screws, trying to find the middle ground and then everything is off. For idle screw i'd start there and set it purposefully high (so its idling too high) then turn it down to suit then the higher screw start low (ie running rich) then lean it out until you get the right amount of exhaust. Then both endpoints should be in safe tolerances. That way you will keep in safe limits of both 'ends' and hopefully using that order will set them both correctly and quickly. Once set and running its pretty much a 'one and done' thing unless you change the nitro you use as that can throw off the "tune" depending on the nitro (ethanol i think) content in it - I found not all fuels are equal so once i got one at a decent price that i could buy regularly and easily i just stuck with that.

@@DerbyCityRC its just a practice thing and getting the low end set screw correctly so it idles as a starting point. Once you've go the steps (as above) iut shold be ok to get it going. Rest is a breeze form there. Id also recommend looking into how to get the engine started using an electric drill to turn the engine over as opposed to manually starting it via a pull string (which as you've seen on other comments) WILL snap and will save a lot of time on parts and fixes later on. Just a thought and an avenue to look into if nitro is something you will start to get into. The setting of screws is also more prevalent if you buy one used as someone WILL have fiddled with it and likely left them all over the place. Out of the box it should be set correctly anyway. Looking forward to the next video whatever it is!

It can be frustrating at first but as you learn to dial them they are great. I started out on nitro around 2005. I stepped away from 2010 to 2019 and when i came back it was mostly all electric. Electric is easier to operate. Nitro does not burst into flames or burn your house down like some electrics. Something about having a real internal combustion engine of your car that adds realism to your RC. They are hard to beat once you get used to them. Watch more nitro how to's videos and it will become much easier. Make Nitro Great Again!😂

if you like to take an entire toolkit, spare glowplugs and starter, bottles of nitro, and a lot of messing about (sometimes getting to where you wan then to have the thing not start and never run it as sometimes they just don't start) its annoying. You'll spend half your time fiddling with it whereas electric you just turn it on and go. You also need to be away form any houses so you are also limited where you can run it without someone moaning. My advice would be stick with what you have you'll have more actual fun driving it and maintain the flexibility of also being able to run it anywhere you want and at whatever time of the day you want. They are cool but don't underestimate how much work they are and the cost of nitro just to use them.

I did the break in for a few tanks and adjusted the carb and she runs pretty good. I get maybe 15 minutes on a full tank of fuel. Even though lipos are so expensive, I did the math and I would still save money changing the batteries after about 300 cycles vs. running an equivalent nitro rc. The fast fill up time is not really beneficial when I’m constantly tuning and waiting for engine warm up. With electric, I can just floor it right from the cold start. 😂 Kind of cool to tinker with and subjectively fun, but objectively electric is just convenient, cheap, efficient, super low maintenance, powerful at all atmospheric pressures, can be run in backyard without HOA breathing down your neck, not dangerous indoors with CO exposure, long life motors and many other reasons. Fill up time isn’t even a problem since I have multiple lipos and can charge off my car’s 12v battery essentially getting 2-3 hours of runtime before my car’s AGM battery hits 50%. Ironically it would be cheaper to idle my car’s engine a few minutes at a time to charge the battery and get “perpetual” runtime for my lipos. 😂

Worked on cars on the side for probably 7-10 years in my mom’s garage, then I got a full time job doing it for around a decade before moving to small engines. I have a roll of gasket paper somewhere but couldn’t find it lol the laundry boxes are a good idea! Thanks!!!

If you want a nitro engine to live and operate at its peak 1-3 full tanks of idling 1 tank at 10% throttle 1 tank at 30% 1tank at %50 1 tank at 70% 1 tank at 100 And the last two do in burst of throttle The engine was running rough due to the tuning and the the engine is still tight

Have you tried adding sound-generators to RC vehicles? To share an experience illustrating how using speakers for Sound FX on Electric might also be a fun thing for others to try .. it was for me, I added a remote-controlled Fart Machine ($18) to my HBX and my older brother controlled the "gas" while I controlled the throttle. From today's video, I see how Nitro cars' exhaust sound is compelling .. and I think for similar reasons I was tickled by my brother farting around. Mixed-media (auditory, visual, .. and odor) brings up the stimulation. I have to say though, it coulda been LOUDER. 🌬 Angry cat noises For The Win!>

That's like doin 100 today on your brushless cars .😂😂 . It takes a different breed to run Nitros definitely not for everybody.

Gosh..I’m so sorry to hear that 😢. The cars may be ok, just try to dry them out and hopefully they will be fine. The batteries most likely are not worth the risk. Those should be discharged and disposed of unfortunately. Maybe ask others for their opinion but to me it’s an increased fire risk. I hope everything else is ok and that this is soon just a memory. 😕

You need to break the engine in first . As well they don't tell you when you finished with it you need to cool it down with the piston at the lowest part of the engine . You do this so you don't lose the pinch of the engine . (The copper sleeves will expand out and will not hold compression) And you will have problems starting it and running it. The motor will be useless

I lived in the country, so there was no such thing as going to a hobby shop. I was able to get it running 1 time, ran it across my front yard and straight up a tree. (It traveled about 1/3 the way up the tree before it fell backwards and landed on it's roof. I never got it running again after that. I was WAY younger, and even dumber than I am now.
