1 - No Brasil, não há um culto aos mortos a semelhança da Família Guede, muito marcante no Haiti. No entanto, existem vários remanescentes do culto aos mortos e aos ancestrais. Os Guede nos remetem imediatamente ao culto lese Egun, contudo dele se distancia imensamente pela humanização e particularidades apresentadas pelos espíritos que a integram e a representam. Apesar da singularidade entre os dois cultos (que a princípio, indicaria origens africanas distintas), o propósito de ambos é a mesmo, desmistificar a morte. Contudo, se a morte é questionada, seu mistério permanece indecifrável. Seja através dos panos e da máscara que ocultam Egungun, ou em um simples óculos escuro, usado por Barão Samedi. Mesmo sendo representantes da morte, os Guede enfatizam a vida. Sendo conhecidos por apresentarem gestos obscenos, que antes de serem meros deboches enfatizam a fertilidade.
