All her live openings and finals are amazing. Recently the final L'horloge was chilling. I think the opening of Mylenium Tour is the most impressive, and you can check out Timeless ballet if you want to see something surprising. And of course, most of her videoclip are like movies : one is made by Luc Besson, another is a Japanese anime...

This song and video defined the 90's for me, she truly is one of the greatest artists of all time.
@rhaelicent4 жыл бұрын
You prob know this since I’m assuming you gathered info, but this song was the most air played song in France in 1991. Being no1 for 9 weeks straight and in the top 10 for the following 16, meaning 25 weeks in the top 10 alone. It was popular all over Europe, even in my country that has nothing to do with France and it’s really small, had this song come from the radios. And it still does. Personally, if I had to choose a favourite, it would be this song. I’m sure it’s the same for many other fans, the lyrics of this song are so beautiful yet sad. You can see her use of poems clearly. Also it’s funny how you wouldn’t think the lyrics are this sad just by listening to the melody alone. Here’s a translation of them (it’s not mine, I found this in a comment section and I think it’s the most beautiful one I’ve seen so far): “Swimming in the troubled waters, I look to tomorrow, to wait here my end. Floating in the heavy air, with nothing and no one to give my hand to. If I shall fall from ahigh, may my descent be slow. I’ve only found rest in indifference. Even then, I wish I could my innocence again, but nothing has meaning anymore, and nothing is going well. Everything is chaos, set in tune. All my ideals, are words rendered useless. I look for a soul who could help me, but I am part of a disenchanted generation, disenchanted. Who could prevent me to hear it all, when their reasoning falls in shambles. To whose breast should I bind loyalty to, to cradle us in the womb. If death was a mystery, life would have no tenderness. If the sky has a hell, then the sky can very well wait for me. Tell me, in these opposite winds, how can I do it? Nothing has meaning anymore and, nothing is going well. Everything is chaos....”
@viedefun4 жыл бұрын

Hi! Do you have any idea why Mylenes' music hasn't been spread more in northern Europe? Here in Sweden we saw and heard her 3 - 4 biggest songs on MTV in the early ninetees, which were very popular and most people knew her name. Not so today. She was forgotten, and today when I play the KZbin videos "A L'Ombre" and "Du Temps", for my friends, they are totally jaw dropped and amazed. When I tell them that Mylene is Europes biggest artist, they can hardly believe me. Because they never heard of her. Her songs is never played on radio or telly in Sweden. You need to search for her yourself on KZbin. Is this something with her record company, or is it herself that made this choice?
@nicolasdoare54104 жыл бұрын
Björn Johansson Mylène Farmer is a very discreet artist. She’s not commercial and she doesn’t promote her music a lot so that’s maybe why she’s not very popular in the rest of the world. Also, her shows are very rare, she goes on tour every 5 or 7 years after her last tour. During this period of time she is very discreet but that’s her choice. She want to be rare and kind of “exclusive”. And when she’s on tour she perform exclusively in France and sometimes in Russia because she is very famous there. That’s maybe another reason why she’s not very famous elsewhere than in France where she is an indisputable legend. As I said, she’s very discreet and rare. She’s also very mysterious. That’s some of the reasons why she’s not famous elsewhere but that’s also one of the reasons why she’s an incredible artist.

I’m a bit late but I just found out your video. Just a remark about the music video, and the ending : yes they are free, but are now lost in a snowy desert with nothing in the distance. The successful rebellion gave them high hopes and those hopes died when realization kicked in : only death awaits them. Which ties in with the title of the song - Disillusioned - and the lyrics : the world has gone to shit, youth has nothing to look forward to, nothing to hold on to, all they/we can do is going through the motions until the bitter end.

Do you want to see a live? Get up early. She performs very little, divulges herself very little and each of her concerts is a show that everyone is tearing up in a few minutes. Mylene is mystic

Ok, listen. If you enjoyed these older song of her with this quality of video, you must watchi Libertine and Pourvu Quelles Soient Douces (in that order, the second is a sequel of the first). Sans Contrefacon is also an excellent song with cool video. Regarding a live version of this, I like the one in 2009, in the Stade de France (nº5 on tour). Great reaction. If you go deeper on the lyrics of each song you will also be delighted ;)

As a French girl it is quite crazy for me to see someone discovering a song that is absolutely a top song in France. Everybody knows this song, put it at parties and all. Like... She is such a star here and this song is probably one of the most famous.. Not only her most famous song but one of the most famous French songs here in France I think. And I am not even a huge huge fan of her, I mean, i like her a lot and all. But that's about it. But she definitely is part of the greatest French artists.

Yes Dereck, that music video is indeed freakin amazing. As a matter of fact it's my absolute favorite no 1 video from the MTV-era in the ninetees. Check out her later video "A L'Ombre" from 2012. Amazing video, as well. Mylene is the queen of pop.

If you want to see a live version, the one from 1996 is i think the best. The concert is the live à Bercy.

I got to know Desenchantee thanks to Kate Ryan's 2002 dance-pop cover of the song. It was such a huge hit in Belgium. It was really perfect for all of us moody teenagers at the moment.

As an American I'm sure you have lots of European music and videos to discover, especially artists from France or that sing in french. There are so many amazing things from the past 4 decades. Myllene Farmer has an amazing body work and was so successful that in the 90's was already called the French Madonna. Mylene have so many AMAZING videos. In France Mylene had 16 (yes sixteen) #01 albums!

Very glad that you enjoy her music and her universe, cocorico like we would say in French. You should listen to her album Anamorphose and especially California and l'Instant X. The album was recorded in California, and has many rock sounds, many critics think that it is her most achieved album. Her live from 1997 is also very good. No artist can compete with her, she is on every front, production, writing, composing... I hope you will enjoy her other songs and concerts as well.

All her albums are greatly produced, especially from her 1991 album “L’autre” onwards. I recommend not only her studio albums but also her live albums and video clips as well. It is unbelievable that she’s almost unknown not only in America but here in Germany as well. 😴

You understand Mylene Farmer is a very great artist when you see people in her public crying and yelling her name during a concert, when you see her clips are short movies, when you see many comments "Her best clip/song is ..." and many titles after.
