This song was Madonna's fourth and final Top 10 hit from her 1984 album, Like A Virgin. The song peaked at the #6 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the summer of 1985. This performance was a part of her very first music tour called The Like A Virgin Tour back in the summer of 1985. What a absolute banger this song was indeed!!! The reigning Queen of Pop!!!

With Madonna and Like A Virgin albums she passed the 9M in albums sales (US), sold out The Virgin Tour, the Madonna look alike's phenomenon, performed at the Live AID, released 5 TOP 10 hits, a movie star career took off with Vision Quest and Desesperatly Seeking Susan success, and she married Sean Penn (the most publicized private wedding of the year). Against her will she was the cover of Penthouse and Playboy.

If someone commented her expression on her face of the sheer Joy she had on her look at the opening of her confessions tour she still has internal happiness radiating after so many years. That's her best and favorite thing to do to perform for us. You can still see the pure joy she has which radiates brilliantly. That's really something after 40 plus years in this business.

What a wonderful concert! 1985 was her year. Almost every girl wanted to be like her. That song was the absolutely perfect intro, like "Material Girl" and its funny moments at the end of the show ("I won't leave without my fur").

I remember when this was getting heavy rotation on MTV. This was when every other teenage girl you'd run into was a Madonna clone. She was perhaps the first female rock star that other females went absolutely wild over like the previous generation did Elvis or the Beatles. So wild to think this was nearly 40 years ago. Yeah, this is live, from the Like A Virgin tour I think. Certainly all the vocals are live: You can hear the occasionally slightly off notes from both the backing singers and the queen herself. The use of backing tracks was not as ubiquitous back then as it is today. Partly because the technology wasn't there, and partly because pop songs back then weren't made up of 200-300 hundred tracks the way they are today. Meaning they could be faithfully reproduced by a band, albeit a rather large band. There were exceptions of course: Depeche Mode used to tour with their rhythm tracks on a tape machine, since they didn't have a drummer or a bassist. (Ironically they now tour with a drummer, although they still use backing tracks).
