One of the best rock songs ever. The passion within it… Glad you enjoyed it so much, Ace.

Eric Clapton bought the painting on the cover of the album & gave it to George Harrison because it reminded him of George’s wife Patty Boyd. George gave the painting to Patty. When Eric made this album Layla & other love songs, he used the painting because he was in love with Patty, who was still married to Harrison, even though they were best friends. Patty just recently sold the painting at auction for 2.5 million

You're right, it's not a violin. It's the late great Duane Allman playing slide guitar.

Love your reaction! Eric Clapton wrote this for George Harrison’s wife Patty. She left George, who never treated her well, for Eric. He also treated her terribly, both cheated on her etc. That’s what musicians were notorious for. Great song though!! 😍

Guitar legends Duane Allman (on the slide guitar, not a violin) and Eric Clapton with a song Eric wrote about George Harrisons wife Pattie Boyd. He later married her.

I've never heard that glitch before. I heard it here before you mentioned it. I'm pretty sure it's not in the recording.

@@svtinker I think you may have commented on the wrong post. I'm not commenting on the guitar sound here. I'm talking about the drum stutter at about 7:30 in this video.

Eric Clapton on vocals and lead guitar, Duane Allman on slide guitar (not a violin 😏) and Jim Gordon on drums and piano.

To me, this is one of THE classic songs to play if a person asks, "What is rock music?" Hall of Fame. Duane Allman, of the Allman Brothers Band, apparently played the screechier guitar parts. He's credited in the development of Southern Rock, in the particular the use of slide guitar. A couple of years after this recording, Duane died in a motorcycle crash.

George Harrison wrote "Something" for his wife, Pattie Boyd. Eric Clapton wrote "Layla" for Pattie Boyd, his best friend George Harrison's wife, to convince her to leave George for him...and she did.

When the term “Classic Rock” is brought up, this song is one of the two or three first songs that come to mind. My wife and I named our son Derek because of Derek and the Dominos.

There are 2 guitar leads. Eric Clapton is playing the main riff. Duane Allman is playing the high pitch slide guitar. Layla helped define FM rock radio in the first half of the 1970s. It was played daily for years. One of the greatest rock songs.

Plenty of tragedies associated with the members of this song. The song's about George Harrison's wife at the time, the beautiful Pattie Boyd Harrison. She left George after he had an affair with his bandmate, Ringo Starr's wife. Eric Clapton's 4-year-old son Conor fell from a 53-floor open window. Think about that for a little bit. Fellow guitarist on this song, the one playing the slide guitar that sounds like a violin, died in a car wreck, shortly after this, at the age of 24. Drummer Jim Gordon died in prison where he was placed for killing his mother, a little over a decade after recording this song; first attacking her with a hammer, then with a knife. He was apparently hearing voices and not taking his medication.

Everything about this song screams cocaine fueled to me. That's part of the glory of it though. The betrayal and turmoil that led to this song were almost certainly fueled by copious amounts of cocaine. The high pitched string you hear is Duane Alan on the slide guitar.
