Excellent interview! The stories were great. Some of those memories of Reggie's career I was fortunate enough to witness. He really was one of the best. A little Chrome Horn and a duck underneath for the pass? That was racing! Those were fun times back then. Reggie is right when he said: "Today's racing is not the same as it was back in 70's 80's and 90's." These days it's all about the all-mighty buck and that's sad. Where has all the fun. grit, and hard work gone? There isn't any these days because they don't work for it. It's all about who's Mommy and Daddy has the deepest pockets? That is the reason why I do not attend races anymore. To many politics. Glad to see Reggie once again and hear about the good old days...

This man has a special place in my heart, I became a race fan as a kid in the early 80s . My step Dad (who was Italian) LOVED routing Reggie on so of course I did too. We barely missed a race. We would go to Thompson and Seekonk and sometimes Stafford almost every week. I still have great memories of the black "Kryptonite" 44 and "Superman" Greg Sacks going at it, I later became a Corky Cookman fan too but was always happy when Reggie won. We used to go in the pits when the races were over and Reggie was always great to me signing any pictures and programs I had. Unfortunately my parents got divorced and I stopped going to the tracks. Now in my Forties I try to go at least a couple times a year and Im really happy to see the Sks get to where they are as well as the open modifieds. RIP Corky and Great interview

Great show Derek, best of luck in your new venture. The “Reg” was an absolute modified legend. He was always competitive right to the end of his career. Like that you tried to bait him into coming back for a race or two. And yes he would and could still run if he wanted. He looks great !! 👍

Thanks for this! I hope a part 2 is in the future. It’s nice to here stories from these short track legends. Huge respect for the way these guys did it back then. It would be awesome to see a Bentley Warren interview.

I don't know how but I just came across this channel today. I loved listening to this interview with Reggie. Being from NJ I was kind of holding my breath the whole time waiting for him to mention something about the Dick Barney cars that he drove, Wall Stadium and Flemington.

All Respect to, Reggie Ruggiero. I know he put it on pole @ Martinsville. And Win there too, wasn't too shabby @ Wilkesboro either.. I'm from Winston- Salem, I know how great/fast this man is/was... But I honestly don't think the fans at Bowman Gray follow the Northern Tour... Just a hop and a skip from Bowman Gray is the North Carolina School of the Arts where the music/Dance faculty is world Class. If they were to give a performance at Carnegie Hall or the Tokyo Opera House it would be a sell out... But just down the road at Crawford Hall if they perform, on a good Tuesday Night... with no admission charge, they might be lucky to get 20 people to show, 15 of whom are students taking their class. So yes at Thompson or Stafford, YES, Reggie would get the standing O he deserves, in Bowman Gray Stadium, it wouldn't be Boo's for Reggie, it's more likely to be Who's? I'm not going to talk too bad of the folks of Winston-Salem, because I grew up there & I'm one of them... But sometimes they have greatness offered at a discount and it's not appreciated adequately.... They Just don't know.
