This piano part written by Rita Coolidge and Dominos drummer and Coolidge boyfriend Jim Gordon but Gordon claimed as his own and credited only to him. This part was recorded a couple weeks later with Gordon playing the piano and Duane Allman on slide guitar and added to the main song. Domino piano player Bobby Whitlock also added extra piano to make the incredible sound we hear. The song that Rita claimed he took this from was her song "Time" she and Jim had written earlier. She asked to be credited as a songwriter on Layla but she was denied and never pursued it any further. Hear for yourself, that's Rita's sister Priscilla on vocals with Booker T. 😀 kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYrOZWyXmdKJeqMsi=aQd9gJExz1CJ7vjs

@@Ray-mw1fx The original version's single edit also fades out before the piano part. In fact, Bobby Whitlock (the keyboard player) did not believe this piano part should even have been part of Eric's song, because Jim Gordon (the drummer, who was jailed in 1983 for murdering his own mother) co-wrote the track with Rita Coolidge. Coolidge's sister, Priscilla Jones, had a song called "Time" and that has the exact same melody as the "Layla" piano part. Whitlock insisted that the inclusion of the piano part would wreck an otherwise great song that Eric wrote straight from his heart, calling it "tainted goods" and he remembered, "Jim took the melody from Rita's song and didn't give her credit for writing it. Her boyfriend ripped her off. I knew -- but nobody would ever listen to or believe me."

1,000th comment. This film is a masterpiece and I love it. I’ll never forget watching it with my mother. During a road trip to visit my father, about half way there we reached San Antonio, and got through it to the country. Boerne and Seely alike. My mother changed the station on the radio to a rock station only available in that area, the moment the commercial ended, the host announced on the radio that Jim Gordon had died. He told the story of his collaborations in music and his amazing talent, and eventually his tragic tale. He also told of his composition of this piano piece in “Layla,” which he soon after played. My mother and I silently and listened to it. When the piano piece played, my god. I never heard the song like that, something was different about it.

0:25 "Jimmy was cutting every link between the robbery and himself, but it had nothing to do with me. I gave him the tip, and he gave me some Christmas money. From then on, I kept my mouth shut. I knew Jimmy. He had the cash; it was his. I knew he'd kick some money upstairs to Paulie, but that was it. Made him sick to have to give money to the guys who stole it. He'd rather whack 'em! Anyway, what did I care? I wasn't asking for anything, and besides, Jimmy was making plenty of money through my Pittsburgh connections. Still, months after the robbery, they were finding bodies all over. When they found Carbone in the meat truck, he was frozen so stiff it took them two days to thaw him out for the autopsy."

@@Claptain_Planet It started with Stacks. Stupid fucker should have just gotten the truck destroyed like he was suppose to. Instead, he got high and fell asleep at his girlfriend's place. This echoed earlier in the movie, "You know who gets caught? [n-word] stick up men, and you know why? They fall asleep in the getaway car Karen..."

I love this part. I fall in love with my friend. She like me, but not love me. My heart is broken, but is new year and i know, that the love is for me somewhere and good friendship is better than bad love. I drove my car today with blasting with this piece and i smiled and cried together. Thank you Derek and Dominoes and Goodfellas for this piece and true love is for everyone good people 😊

We always called each other good fellas. Like you’d say to somebody, 'You're gonna like this guy. He's all right. He's a good fella. He's one of us.' You understand? We were good fellas. Wiseguys. But Jimmy and I could never be made because we had Irish blood. It didn't even matter that my mother was Sicilian. To become a member of a crew you've got to be one hundred per cent Italian so they can trace all your relatives back to the old country. See, it's the highest honor they can give you. It means you belong to a family and crew. It means that nobody can fuck around with you. It also means you could fuck around with anybody just as long as they aren't also a member.
