What a beautiful presentation to show what a specific camera and lens combination can do. Any micro four thirds doubters need look no further than here to confirm the quality achievable with this format in capable hands. Thank you for this beautiful travelogue.

Wonderful video Derek... I'm a long time subscriber but rarely comment. I appreciate this video so much because I have been circling this lens for a few years.Generally I would say I prefer fast primes, but this video shows how versatile this lens can be. I have used the Panasonic 14-140 and I think it's adequate,, but not to the level of the Olympus Pro.. Thanks for demonstrating the effectiveness of the stabilization .... well done

Now this is what a professional video slideshow is done. Great photography, narration, seasoned with sound effects and music. Bravo.

Thank you for your comments. Had to view the programme again as I produced it in 2019. It is interesting to see how my style has changed, particularly with Covid in-between. I like to use video where movement is essential and I think it blends in well.

Hey Derek. I have been visiting the Scottish Highlands for ten days just resently. With same camera and lens as You use. I think it was a succes of more reasons, I am working on using the functions af the camera, some of a struggle for an amateur. But I try hard every time, inspired by You... Less is More... Yes, You are right...! it works when one are fighting the landscape and the Scottish stormy rain, one camera with one lens. Thank You, Karl, DK.

Thank you, I am so pleased that my 'Less is More' philosophy has been helpful for your Scottish trip. I am back there this October. Best wishes.

I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful video. Might I ask what the piano music is that occurs in your intro to Scotland area? As a new E-M1 mkii owner I really appreciate your instruction on its use! Thank you so much!
@DerekForss2 жыл бұрын
It is great to hear that you like my instruction. The piano music at the beginning of the Scotland section and at the end of Dorset is 'Clair de Lune' by Debussy. It is easy to obtain a commercial recording, or download it from Google.

@@DerekForss thank you so much as I knew it was familiar but could not put a name on it. Debussy is one of my favorite composers but I am very bad at names. I especially enjoy prelude a kapers midi duns faune, probably butchered the spelling. The London philharmonic video is my absolute favorite arrangement/ performance!

Another nice travel video, great still photos under extreme lighting condition, very nice when post processed, like the live video adds a lot to the production.

I like to shoot landscapes in dramatic lighting and I agree that the occasional video adds that something extra.

Hello Derek - I am enjoying (and learning from) your videos. Thank you for all the info. Do you know if the 12-100 will work with the Olympus 1.4x or 2x tele-extenders?
@DerekForss4 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. I have consulted the Olympus website to check and it only mentions the 40-150 Pro and 300 Pro.

Thank you Derek for another entertaining yet informative video! I am seriously considering this lens to take to New Zealand next year. You said no filters were used but did you use one to protect the front element?
@DerekForss5 жыл бұрын
I did not use a filter as I wanted to show the quality of the 12-100 lens without any third-party optics. The lens hood offers some protection, but not everyone I encounter uses one!
@MultiMarooned5 жыл бұрын
When I had one on my 12-40, it caused a 'green-tinge' problem so, I for one, wouldn't have one. I'll stick with the 'diamond-encrusted' lens hood...........

Looks like you had both 12-100 and 12-200. If you wanna decide between them which one for this kinda trips would you use? Nature, Travel, ...
@DerekForss5 жыл бұрын
This programme uses only the 12-100 Pro Lens. I have done a separate production about the 12-200 Lens at kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZmnpoaXaKmSh5o. If using only one lens on an extensive travel tour where nature is a feature, I would seriously consider the 12-200. However, there is a general feeling amongst Olympus Photographers that the 12-100 Pro is one of their best lenses.

Lots of dust in the top of the lens 😬 going to buy it tomorrow 😊

Not sure what you are referring to about dust, but if you buy the lens, I provide a convenient link to Amazon from the programme.

I know you shoot raw Do you use any auto settings I would love to up grade i have the em1 mark 1 with the 42.5mm lens my son has a g9 can one get similar results with a g9? Or just be happy with the em1 that I have. And learn to navigate the notorious menu.
@DerekForss5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I save to RAW and adjust in Lightroom, which requires its own technique. I never use Auto, except in an emergency. In controlling what the camera does, I find the Super Control Panel easier to navigate than the menus. I have no experience of the G9, which I think is a Panasonic camera.

I owned a omd -1mkii and penf. I need to buy or 12-40 0 12-100? which one would you recommend to me?
@DerekForss5 жыл бұрын
Because of size and weight, both lenses are better suited to the OM-D. You have an extra stop (f2.8) with the 12-40, but the 12-100 has its own image stabiliser that works with the camera's stabiliser. My preference is for the 12-100 for landscapes and architecture, but much may rest upon what you wish to photograph.
@skakdosmer5 жыл бұрын
Very nice and instructive video indeed, so thank you. But I just looked online at the price of your equipment, and I find it a little surprising that anybody’s willing to pay that much. If I can’t take as good pictures and video with my Canon Eos 70D, it won’t be the fault of the camera or the lens, I’m sure, and I paid only a little over half the price.
@DerekForss5 жыл бұрын
You make a very important and valid point. I use the E-M1mkii and 12-100 Pro Lens for professional reasons as I get my photographs published. I have produced some KZbin programmes with cheaper gear and I refer you to www.derekforss.com for more information. However, I have been doing photography for 60 years and of course, experience is something that cannot be taught. Best wishes and thanks.
