Fun earwig fact: the largest earwig in the world was the Saint Helena Island earwig. Almost all earwigs are maybe an inch long maximum, but these freaks of nature could grow over 3 inches long. Although they haven’t been spotted since 1967 and were declared extinct in 2014, I personally like to still believe they’re on that island somewhere… And yes, they were also excellent parents.

Nice video! Here in my country (Brazil), we call them "tesourinhas," which literally means "little scissors" and they are everywhere here.

I love earwigs, I always see them in and nearby my slow compost pile, best detritivores I swear.

Earwigs are often found in fruit orchards. They don’t generally eat the Fruit but the Fruit parasites. I spent a few summers picking APPLES plums etc. and the earwigs were all over us. In all the wooden baskets etc. but no harm came to me . Although I’d shake my cloths and self etc over the fire smoke. Before climbing into the van at night. Generally I’d had a few ciders

Fun earwig fact: incredibly underrated order ♥️ Actual fact: they are very similar to the non-insect hexapod group called Diplura

For sure can be easy to mix em up! The Japygidae and Dermapterans are convergent evolution at its finest

In regard of pinchers, Japyx come pretty close to earwigs.

All i have to add is a brief anecdote! A cool summers eve, sun nearly faded...... little broly ventures to flip a rock.... and is greeted with about 40 earwigs up his arms and across the ground LMAO theyre weirdly fast suckers and taxonomically from what i know most related to the order Zoraptera
@insectspotlightproject

They are very speedy! Yup right now genetic analysis seems to point to the Zoraptera and Dermaptera being very closely related!
