Dr. Shultz, a lot of people use baking soda as a mask (mixed with water and/or lemon) to help with their acne and hyper-pigmentation. Others say that baking soda is too harsh and can disturb your skin's ph level. What is your opinion?

Have you thought about doing a progressive exfoliant for the body ?

Dr Schultz, how do I know if I am over-exfoliating? I use tretinoin 0.05% at night on my face, and alternate between Glycolic 10% and salicylic acid 2% in the mornings on my face. I use Glycolic 10% nightly on my neck. Yesterday I applied an SPF 30+ cream on my neck and noticed some redness (but no pain or peeling) on my neck at the end of the day. My face, where I used SPF 50, was fine. Does this photo sensitivity mean that I am over-exfoliating? The funny thing is I only use Glycolic on my neck, and not the other two products, so it seems even Glycolic 10% alone is over exfoliating my neck.

Hello Dr. Shultz, I've been hearing so much about deep cleansing masks (ie Glam Glow and a "natural" Aztec Clay which is either mixed with a.c vinegar or water ) that help clear out pores. My question is how safe are these products if so many complaints are being made about stinging or even burning ones skin? Can you please give any information on these types of clay masks?
@imyourhappydrug10 жыл бұрын
I think people are only complaining about stinging/burning if they leave it on too long or have an allergic reaction to it. Will be interested to hear the answer of this question because I use the Aztec mask on occasion, I don't leave it on for ages though because I have sensitive skin.

imyourhappydrug i agree about how the person is (mis) using it. Im curious if it harms the skin at all over time. Benefits? Im sure it depends on the product itself, but in general I'm just curious.

Hi Dr. Schultz, I workout quite a lot, usually in the afternoon, which leads me to wash my face at least 3 times in one day. I know that the recommended is only twice a day but I just can't avoid washing my face after my workout. Sometimes, if I wear makeup in the morning, I will either use toner or use cleanser to wash my face to remove makeup (if it's heavy). Also, if I have to continue on with the day, I'll either reapply makeup or even without the makeup, i'll still cleanse my face again at night before sleep to remove dirt and oil. I know this can dry up the skin. So are there any suggestions for people like me who go to the gym during the day?

Dr. Schultz, is there such a thing as a topical treatment that can literally stimulate collagen formation?
@Jakemwc10 жыл бұрын
Topical application of any products containing either Retinol or Glycolic acid can help the stimulation of collagen production in the skin to a certain extent. But start slow to prevent irritation, especially if you have never used any of these chemicals before.

He doesn't recommend brands to viewers because he has his own line of products. I highly recommend Cetaphil moisturiser for dry to very dry skin.

Hi Dr Schultz, is it possible to get a tan while wearing sunscreen? I am currently using Maximum Solar Defense Sheer Cream SPF 50 and wondering if this is enough.
@Jakemwc10 жыл бұрын
Dr. Schultz mentioned this before in his previous videos. Your skin produces Melanin in reaction to the exposure of UV rays, and it is Melanin that is responsible for the darkening of your skin (which results in tanning). So by adequately protecting yourself from UV rays, you can limit the amount of Melanin produced. If you still tan significantly when you have applied your sunscreen, it means that you haven't been applying your sunscreen adequately or your sunscreen doesn't work.

Jake Mak Woon Chong Thanks, I must have missed that video. It just that sometimes you hear claims that say "a sunscreen that let you tan" so I was curious to know if it was true. Is it possible to safely tan? I myself do not want to tan so I wear high broad spectrum SPF
@Jakemwc10 жыл бұрын
A sunscreen can still let you tan in at least 2 ways: 1) The sunscreen only offers a sun protection rating of SPF4. A well known brand, Banana Boat, offers a sun tanning lotion with just SPF4. As you might have noted, it doesn't offer the recommended protection rating of at least SPF15. So even after using it, the UV rays can still damage your skin, as evident by the tanning of your skin. 2) I've seen sunscreen that comes with progressive self tanners. It's essentially a brown/bronze colored lotion that makes your skin look tanned as you use it day by day. The lotion just happens to come with sunscreen protection. This is the safest form of tanning because it uses artificial pigments to give you a tanned appearance.
@Jakemwc10 жыл бұрын
freestuff67 The main point to take away here is if the tanning comes from the exposure of UV rays (not just sunlight, but tanning beds too), then it's not safe. When your skin tans, it means that it has already been damaged by the UV rays, The only safe tan available comes in the form of lotions that contains artificial pigment to "stain" your skin with the brown pigment, give you a tanned look. Hope I've helped you!
