Bouncing off the ceiling/walls is what I do everyday for the past few years in clubs. What I can advise you is to NOT have your flash at 45 degrees, but actually lower. Here's why - at 45 degrees, you get what you can see in your photos, which is just huge shadows under people's eyelids and eyebrows. If you have your flash lower, it will fill their faces, so it's gonna feel like you shot with a big softbox behind you.

A few questions... 1 - What zoom do you usually use on your flash? Do you keep it the same or adjust it periodically? 2 - Do you use single-point AF when doing the panning/motion shots with rear curtain? How do you make sure you're focused where you'll have to be when the flash goes off? 3 - I saw that your ISO number changes from shot to shot. Are you shooting in Auto ISO, and if so, how do you ensure it doesn't over-expose the image with the flash? Thanks for the video!

Great tips! Even from working with nightclubs and events for last 5 years I got some new insights. I think however you missed a major point. How you should think around composing the picture and how you should think about placing your subject. First off, try to place your subject in the dark - this way they will only be lit by your flash and you will avoid ghosting. Second, make sure you have a light-interesting background. This is even more important on a nightclub or concert as they tend to only have light from the stage direction and also.. black walls, turn your subjects so they have the stage/venue behind them. Lastly- try get some space between your subjects and people behind them so your flash only light up your subject (maybe more important for events and nightclubs and not so much private weddings).

If you want to introduce more ambient light why not to rise your iso little bit more instead of dragging the shutter? 1/15 is ok when you want to have some light trials but you'll have some motion blur in your other photos. Modern dslr are pretty good in high iso, even in the range of 3200-6400. Anyway,good video,thanks for posting
@jasonbodden8816 Жыл бұрын
if your subject is not moving a lot or is pretty much still, the flash will freeze the motion enough to not get motion blur.
