I really don't have anything that stands out as "rare" in my collection but I seem to have some sort of magnetism towards being given incredibly sought-after GameCube games. A friend in high school one day just gave me Twin Snakes, and a few weeks ago, a very good friend said "hey, I know you collect games, take these GameCube games" of which included Paper Mario TTYD and Pikmin 1. I feel that MVC2 story on a spiritual level. I feel like everyone has a story like that. They sell a game for barely anything and go "hm....that was a mistake"

Man, I feel that origin story for your collecting, Derrick. But happy to see how much it's expanded since then. On a side note, my first exposure to Xenosaga was through its cutscenes, so the 20+ hours of those means I feel you all too much on your point of the length for each episode.

Xenosaga III is so exorbitantly rare because after II reviewed badly and sold worse than I they ended up not printing a lot of copies of III, which sold very poorly even by series standards, unfortunately starting a trend of North American print runs of Xeno games never providing enough copies to sustain collectors in the long term. I can't agree with Ash enough about the Saga series by the way, III looks better than most Wii games, is my favorite turn-based battle system of all time, AND arguably has the best, most satisfying ending in the series (at least until July)!

Is that why Nintendo wasn't going to release Xenoblade in North America?
@amirgarcia5472 жыл бұрын
@@Fuzunga Nah, Xenoblade is a separate series. It’s mainly because it was released at the end of the Wii’s lifespan and was a niche RPG, so they didn’t really see the value in localizing it until they saw the fan demand.

I love telling my story about Path of Radiance: back in 2007 I got obsessed with Rabbids for some reason, I wasn't even a fan of Rayman but saw some trailers of Raving Rabbids 2 and thought it was hilarious and had to buy it day one, so I went and buy it. It had a bit of a discount and I had some spare change and saw PoR on the USED shelf for like 6 dollars so I also got it. It was in pretty bad shape though, the box was damaged, it had no manual and the disc was scratched to the point I was able to see the cutscene where Grail faces the Burger King the first time but after that every time I replay it it crashes (only with that one). But anyways, I became obsessed it, I finished it 2 times in a little over a week and became one of my top 3 favorite games of all times and FE is now one of my favorite IPs.

For Jon's video I commented that a lot of my valuable games are just GCN stuff that was common and cheap back during its life but blew up in value recently. But since then I saw his tweet about pricing for the Super Famicom cart of Umihara Kawase (recently added to Japan's NSO) and found a great deal for complete in box off a Japanese auction site. Otherwise that game goes for $80-$100, really neat to have since it's a comfort yet challenging series I get back into occasionally. The whole series is on Steam for anyone interested and sees the scary physical pricing. Also just found out Project X Zone 2 is going for crazy prices now! Have the cart and a Gamestop box instead of the original packaging but even that seems crazy valuable right now, glad I scooped that a couple years ago.

Derrick, I think this was a great video… but you should have re-recorded the Xenosaga part. You said “Xenoblade 3” instead of “Xenosaga 3” a few times. You caught yourself eventually, but at that point I’d suggest just splitting the recording rather than doing it in one take. Since this is a discussion about 5 games, I think you could split the video in fifths, then put each section together in post. Overall though, I’m happy to see you try out new things, and I look forward to seeing what you do next!

As I said on Jon’s video, I don’t own too many “rare” games, but some of the more uncommon or expensive ones I have (outside of the obvious like the DS Pokémon games) are the DS version of Chrono Trigger (that one I bought randomly at a used games store years ago and am glad to have held onto), Shin Megami Tensei IV, Persona Q2, The World Ends With You: Final Remix, Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition, No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again and both Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and the physical version of Torna: The Golden Country (and that last one I got a very good deal on due to only being $69 [nice], albeit without the case. Though I did buy a replacement case later on.) I did use to own Rhythm Thief and the Emperor’s Treasure on 3DS, but sadly I ended up losing it. ;-; And while European or Japanese copies are relatively cheap, for some reason the NA version goes for HUNDREDS of dollars.

Path of Radiance is F I R E. Radiant Dawn is still my favorite for its gameplay and story, but a lot of what makes that game so great started with Path of Radiance. It had just the right amount of customization options like Bonus EXP, Custom Weapons, and Skills that weren’t completely game breaking for the most part. I feel like every new entry in the franchise reeeeeally struggles to engage with me, just because the difficulty feels self inflicted. With online components, DLC, absurdly broken skills, too many customization options and super high support buffs, if you play the newer Fire Emblem entries on the hardest difficulties, they’re challenging for like 6 chapters, and then you grind like hell, as you are actively encouraged to do, and then the rest of the game is smooth sailing. I much preferred the linear gameplay and limited resources of the older games. Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn is my favorite game of all time, and Path of Radiance is pretty high on my list, but I just don’t enjoy the newer entries in the series whatsoever :( Hoping that the Tellius series gets some kind of rerelease on Switch

It's a really fun game. I actually have 1 and 2 boxed in my collection! Path of Radiance i'm also lucky enough to own. But it comes with a story! This was some time during the late Wii era. I was nosing a GAME store and of all things. There were 5 copies of Path of Radiance brand new. I knew it was a rare game so I grabbed it immediately and also texted my best friend and asked if I wanted to pick it up for him and he can pay me back. Whenever you play Suikoden II, I'm sure you will, but just play I first. It's short but adds a lot to the journey and world. It really does make the experience better. And I would definitely recommend III as well, because that's literally my favorite game of all time. I am in the minority on that, but I do think it's a wonderful game that has a lot to offer, even if it clicks with me more than most. By that point you should just play the rest, haha, but V is expensive as well now, so I'd understand if you didn't. I was very fortunate to have gotten into the series back before it really blew up in value. Aside from II. I actually won that back in 2015/16 on ebay for $81. I remember being so low on cash at the time that I felt really guilty, but oh boy, even then was that an amazing deal. But now?... Haven't been that lucky since. Maybe my luck ran out that day. Just curiosity, what is it about Suikoden 3 that alot of people don't like about?
@KingOfHart342 жыл бұрын
@@jaretco6423 I just think most fans don't like anything that's different. It's the most fundamentally different, being the only one with multiple protagonists, none of which are silent, and an overall different atmosphere than the first two. I know it's not the case for everyone, but I think nostalgoa has a lot of influence on it. Don't get me wrong, I love the first two, and I acknowledge a lot of III's flaws, but they don't detract from my experience personally. I think it's always worth a playthrough so you can decide for yourself where you fall and why. I personally find the narrative and characters to be so engrossing, and the way the game tells its story to be so creative, unique, and incredibly executed. I love it to death, but I understand most people don't agree, and that's okay. It's the beauty of art.

Square Enix did fantastic job with Kingdom Hearts series with that all in one package. It has entire franchise and it is only 30 pounds. I hope Konami and others follow them as an example. Also I have xbox version of mvc2. It is the shitty version but I love that game anyway.
