My old man working as a geologist & engineer was just back from a stint in Africa, went to Hotel Ritz in Oslo for a cup of coffee, all seats were full at the restaurant so dad walked over to the only table with an available seat and asked the other customer if he could sit there, "keine problem", looks down at the other customer and voila it's "Derrick"! Apparently Tappert had a cabin at Hamarøy and was just having his habitual cup of coffee at Ritz ^^

This series was on TV, in the 1970's, here in South Africa. It was dubbed into Afrikaans. They called it 'Derrick'. Incidentally, on South African TV, in the 1970's and 1980's, they only had programs in English and Afrikaans. Foreign language programs, especially in German and French, were dubbed into Afrikaans. There was also some English language ones dubbed into Afrikaans. There were also some local Afrikaans and English ones. The dubbing was said to be very good, and even seemed like they were almost originally made in Afrikaans. Many English speaking people of course disliked English language ones being dubbed into Afrikaans. I read that there were even some Afrikaners who also did. One reason was reckoning it was an insult to their intelligence. Another reason was because of a flaw that the dubbing often had - the people spoke too fast. I reckoned that the foreign language ones should have also been dubbed into English. This could even have been from the Afrikaans. That would sometimes be for the local viewing. The main reason would be for the international market, as I read that not that many foreign language ones are translated into English, and some of them I reckoned were good. I still reckon that.

Seems there are no English episodes anywhere except the ones I taped on VHS back in Australia on SBS in the 90s. I would buy the DVD box set if they had English! My German isn't strong enough to reliably watch the originals.

Under settings you can get subtitles in any language.

When you click on the small wheel on the screen. then click subtitles then the bottom automatic translation. you can choose a language.

@@aartvanderweerd6171 Subtitles and translation are not the same things. Subtitles or Closed Caption (CC) uses a file that comes with the video for the dialogue. The KZbin translator uses the auto generated dialogue as the source and KZbin auto translation is worthless because the auto generated dialogue is in itself pretty bad/

I watched every episode of this when in High School. Oh wow, brings back good memories. Is there any other way to get English subtitles because when I select "Captions" I only have selection between Norwegian or Auto Generated German? Pretty please if any one has a tip!

If you don't mind bad (really bad) translation, you could use the auto translation feature. You have to turn on subtitle either by clicking the CC or from the setting menu which will give you another menu and select which in this case is "German (auto generated)", then you have to go back and click on the German (auto generated), again which will give you another menu with "Auto-translate". Select that and it will then gives you another menu which you can scroll down a list of languages to translate into which in your case is English. As you can see, KZbin was not designed by any software geniuses. And as I warned you before, the translation is going to be pretty bad because the translation software must had been created by the same person who designed the KZbin controls.
