The 80s had some good movies, good music, good times and I remember this store called Erols and then it became like Blockbuster and Tower Records, Sam Goody, the malls were cooler and everyone had jobs, and they had the best movies by John Hughes which are now instinct classics and Michael Jacksons's Thriller in 1982 was the #1 Album to buy and everyone wanted to be like Madonna when she had her Like A Virgin Tour, and Madonna was wayy better than Lady Ga Ga who is trying to be LIKE Madonna, The weather wasn't crazy, the schools didn't have police officers patroling the schools, kids were bullyed but nothing major and texting was passing little notes around in some classes and the Female Teachers didn't look like Models they were ACTUALLY teachers, The kids would sing and dance and everything was personal and not out in the open like Cell Phones, Texting, Selfies, Cameras watching your every move and schools didn't have graveyards and we didn't have any major shootings, and we had video arcades, and Wargamers and board games like Dungeouns and Dragons, which was like Warcraft for us back in the day, Birthday parties was going to your friends house and singing and dancing on MTV when MTV was MTV, birthday cake and small gifts unlike today its MY SUPER SWEET 16 I want a BMW, Media Room, A new Closet of Clothes with the latest styles, and I can tell my parents to fuck off whenever I need too, and I am super cool with all my friends who are actually POSERS, LOSERS, LEACHES, WANNABES and these are the girls in High School I am talking about Cheerleaders were ACTUALLY Cheerleader in High School with Sweaters, Leg warmers, and Pomp Pomps and now Cheerleaders act like Sexy Kittens Parents back in the 1980s had jobs, and they let their younger kids go outside and play and be with their friends and when Halloween came around, All The kids went trick o Treating WITHOUT Their parents, and Parents can take their TV away, and Stereo if kids or teenagers mis behaved and now ... TOUCH A KID THEY CALL CPS ON THEIR OWN PARENTS... WELCOME TO THE NEW AMERICA WHERE THE 2nd GENERATION DOESNT EVEN GIVE A SHIT!

This movie, the dance scenes, and the idea of a girl (and steel worker) out of nowhere landing that role & becoming that big overnight - was rare. This was also the first movie I ever bought as a movie on Beta Tape (prior to VHS). I learned many of the dance moves. This was also prior to Michael Jackson's classic moon dance moves. And I and my male friends pretended we were the successful plant owner played by Michael Nouri. I could never understand how Jennifer Beals gave that new found opportunity up to return to college. She was never the same actress after returning from college. Google says she's worth $4-5M in total today. If she hadn't gone back to college, she could have been earning $5M-$10M per film. There's al old saying, Never look a gift horse in the mouth. Take it when it's hot! And Beals didn't. She left film to return to college!
@McGyverRhythms9 ай бұрын
The sound track to Flash Dance was as equal to if not more successful than the movie. The film was produced by two of the biggest names of 1980s movies Don Simpson, Jerry Bruckheimer (Top Gun). And the film had Georgio Moroder, one of the biggest names of 1970s-1980s music production, doing its soundtrack. The film earned $200M at the box office which was a big take in those days. This film & soundtrack also changed the movie industry. Up until that time, not many films had popular theme songs playing throughout the film. Just prior to Flash Dance, this film & music team had done it also for American Gigolo starring Richard Gere. There was also some crossover with the film Risky Business at that time, where these soundtracks saw huge record sales. Flash Dance's soundtrack songs went on to score on the top of the charts & receive multiple Grammy awards. Flash Dance was a once in a two decade film, where its use of music tracks impacted films over the next 30 years. That's why this 1983 film seems so modern age. It was way ahead of its time (as was the film Top Gun 3 yrs later by the same group). And Jennifer Beals had the audacity to simply walk away from it. That was crazy!

Might be a dick move of Jerry Bruckheimer not to include her (perhaps on purpose), but the steelworkes also got no billing. So what had Beals to to with this? She never took credit for dancing. BTW: The last part of the scene (breakdancing) isn´t even Jahan. I´ts Richard "crazy legs" Colón with a wig. None of the hired dancers was able to pull it off. This iconic scene inspired a whole generation of young artists. One of the best soundtracks from the 80s, and a lot of good dancing, although the plot and the actors were not that good. Still lovely to see this again. It had a certain quality in itself, because NOBODY that saw this film in 1983 ever forgot it! No matter if they liked it or not. Other movies that had the same effect was Breakfast Club, Footloose etc. All sitting on my shelves as classic vinyl albums. Miss the 80s, and especially the early part of the decade....

The movie sucks big ass, but its soundtrack is a masterpiece. Such a shame that the two best songs are included in the first 15 minutes.

Telling kids today just how HUGE this song was back then, they'd just never get it. This and FAME. Absolutely colossal back in the day.

True with social media the kids today don’t understand the magnitude of fame pre Internet. There was also a mystique about famous people there was no social media post showing every personal moment and that’s what made them special

R.I.P. Irene Cara. I graduated high school in 1977. The dirty dancing disco era was awesome, and this song is still legendary. What a feeling.

Great comment Robert. Unfortunately one consequence of the movie was the movement of thousands of welders into dancing leading to a shortage of welders.

This film redefined dance and was most people's first exposure to break dancing. They show her observing it in the film and then bringing it to an elite dance academy that welcomes talent who redefines art. This film was much more profound than the reviewers said at the time.

I cannot believe she is gone. She was such a role model. Beautiful, strong and fierce. I looked up to her growing up in Brooklyn, NY. She was more than an icon. She was family. And I am sitting hearing crying singing, my heart breaking that she is gone. You are living on forever in our hearts Irene Cara 🕊 💔🤍💛💜 #GoneTooSoon #RIPIreneCara

This will ever and always be one of the scenes that capture the 80s. It never fails to amaze me how toned and fit Jennifer Beals' and Marine Jahan (Beals body double in this scene) are. Peak conditioning. I'm sure this one scene alone inspired young dancers for decades, and I bet it still does.
