Derzhavinsk is a city in Kazakhstan, the regional center of the Zharkainsky district of the Akmola region.
Founded in 1956. City since 1966. Population, according to 2019 data - 6,019 people.
The construction of the Derzhavinskoye settlement began in 1956 to transfer the center of the Barankul district from the village of Barankol due to its remoteness from the Esil-Arkalyk railway. The first street was named after Adilbek Maikutov.
In 1966 the settlement received the status of a city. From that time to 1996, the 38th Missile Division (in the town of Stepnoy) was located in Derzhavinsk, at one time it represented great power and a threat to the enemy, and therefore for a long time the village of Stepnoy was not displayed on maps of the Soviet Union for open use, but on secret topographic maps it was applied. After the division was disbanded, the village of Stepnoy was transferred to the local authorities and soon it was abandoned, and later destroyed, leaving bare five-story houses without windows. In 1998, in the area of ​​the village of Stepnoy, an institution ETs 166/26 was created - a strict regime colony of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, which was disbanded in 2018.
At the moment, five-story residential buildings are being restored in the village of Stepnoy (now the Molodyozhny microdistrict). To date, 6 houses have been restored. A 25-apartment and two 80-apartment residential buildings have been restored within the city.
A new modular veterinary laboratory, a hospital combined with a polyclinic for 70 people have been built on the territory of the city. There is an asphalt concrete plant and a mini-workshop for the production of dairy products.
On June 20, 2023, a gathering of city residents was organized, in which 321 people took part, of which 192 people spoke in favor of renaming the city to Kenesary, 125 people voted against, 4 ballots were declared invalid. The new name of the city was proposed in honor of the last Kazakh Khan Kenesary.
