Desalination in the Labs

What if the solution to global water scarcity was right under our noses... or rather in our oceans? 🌊🚱
Tamar Nagy, an intern at The Lowy International School and student in the Dual Degree Program at Tel Aviv University and Columbia University, asked Professor Hadas Mamane, the head of the Environmental Engineering Program and the Water-Energy (WE) Lab at the School of Mechanical Engineering at Tel Aviv University to share what she is working on in her lab.
Hadas shared that one major challenge is that "we don't have drinking water. However, we do have seawater."
In her lab, they design membranes to separate salt from the water, effectively transforming it into safe, potable water. This approach is essential for tackling water scarcity issues, especially in areas like Israel, where a large percentage of national water demand is fulfilled through desalination.
