Descaling the delonghi dedica 680 from start to finish

I've been asked a few times to upload this so I thought this might help out a few people, it's a real world descaling, left in the mistakes and everything 😁

This occurs every couple of months and is infuriating! I live in scotland where you do not need to descale anything and every time this pops up I can't remember the counterintuitive procedure to start the descaling process and have to watch your youtube video! Thank god you put this up or the coffee machine would have been out the window a few years ago. I'll be avoiding Delonghi in the future!

Worked for me thanks. The key point to remember when refilling with fresh water touch nothing until it's ready then push the steam button once to complete the flush part of the program. Just like you did. Perfect thanks.

Great video - explains it better than Delonghi’s own KZbin video because you run it right through and explain that it stops on its own. Question: Do you have to do this process even in a place that has no hard water and lime scale problem?

Yes and quite regularly if you drink a lot of coffee. At least once every 6 weeks

Thanks for the video. Just to clarify....it is actually 3 times that the water chamber is filled and put through? (Once with the descaler and twice with cold water?). After watching for a third time, I believe it is just twice that the water chamber is filled and flushed through, right?

I bought my EC685 in February so I haven’t descaled my machine yet, but watching a few videos I’m guessing it happens once with the descaler & once with clean water. But I’ve thought that when my time comes to descale, I’ll do it a total of 3 times like you said just to be on the safe side. Make sure all the descaler is out of it. As it is it’s almost impossible to find a doctor at this time, better be safe than sorry. Don’t you think?

Can I ask, having just got a second hand machine and watching numerous videos, if it needs to be rinsed once or twice after the first descaling please? Having just done a descaling cycle after the first fresh water flush I turned the steam switch and (I guess) missed the chance to do another clear run through! From what you do it seem a descale then fresh water flush is ok? Any recommendations welcome 😂 TIA

Yeah 1 rinse through is enough. Descale programme, when it stops empty the tank and fill. With cold water and let it cycle through, (it usually doesn't even empty the full tank.

I noticed there was still water left in the reservoir when the machine stopped. I did my first descale and rinse today and there was still water in the reservoir when the machine stopped on the rinse cycle just like yours. Is this normal then?

Yeah once it's flushed through half a tank it will stop

Fill it with water and then purge it through the wand like you do to pour a cup of Hot water, also pour shots without any coffee.

What are your thoughts on using vinegar instead of descaling solution?

Never tried it to be honest and for the price of descaling liquid in home bargains it's probably cheaper to use the real thing

Go back to where you bought the machine and ask them to adjust the inside to a maximum. Mine used to be like that too, until they adjusted it.
