How often do you reccomend doing this? Can I use breville descaler?

Found this video because Rocket keeps saying don't descale your machine, which makes no sense to me. Amazing that you did a video showing the process. Thank you so much!!! Subscribed!

Thanks for the kinds words! We thought long and hard about this one because any DIY comes with a risk. Descaling yes or no? If you leave it too long and then descale, bits can get dislodged and cause blockages. That said there is no one rule of thumb for when to do it. If you are in a hard water area it could be much sooner but it is also dependent on how heavily the machine gets used. Rocket know this and are not wrong to err on the side of safety. As that is not within the scope of our video try this from the horses mouth. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6uycpxpZbqaa5I

Thanks for great post as always How often should you descale? It's logical to descale for good upkeep, but really confused that Rocket and most reviewers recommend against it.

Yeah the manual says not to descale at home. Probably just because they want your money to send it in to have a professional do it

Awesome videos, thanks for the information! Have you ever done a video for a pressurestat replacement on the Rocket Appartamento?

This is something we can consider for future episodes.

Short: Sadly, you can't do it this in an easy way with descaler since the R58 is a dual boiler whereas the Apparamento is a single boiler HX. Long version: As shown in the video you need to drain water completely out of the boiler to get rid of all remaining descaler. Normally the machine won't let you do this by refilling the boiler instantly when you drain the water from. But with a single boiler system you can do it with a simple trick: Steam pressure. Let the machine heat up, build up the pressure inside the boiler and then switch it off to avoid refilling the boiler by the pump. Open the hot water wand and let the steam pressure work - the boiler will get (almost) empty. On a dual-boiler machine this won't work. The steam boiler is for steam and hot water - it works like at the single boiler and would be ok. But you have an additional "espresso only" boiler which has no steam pressure (below 100 degrees). You can't empty it. So, the descaler remains in the espresso boiler. You can dilute it of course, but it will take a loooong time and plenty of water. Solution: You need to open the machine, remove the espresso-boiler and descale it manually.
