It's me. It's me, Avery J. People who are beating you up for "sometimes" not doing it exactly as the recording. Those people (like me and you) can already play the lick (usually haha). How else would we know if it's exact? A video like that is not directly aimed at us, generally. Although your never too good to learn, even watching something you already know. Keep up the great work, as usual. In a few weeks I'll give you another suggestion. :)

That nugget about forearm rotation is awesome. That is the kind of thing I need most! Thanks Marcel!

Although our boy Marcel is obviously not overly normal I want to let everyone know that for a very modest fee he did a great job tabbing out a TR kickoff for me. Tony's kick-off to All The Way To Texas was driving me nuts so I asked Marcel for help. He responded forthwith with lovely clear and accurate tab. He took an interest in follow-up. He did so with humour and the right amount of verve and helped out this Tony-wanna-be here in the Kootenays, BC, Canada. So you can support this chap, he's the real thing.

Wtf. To be Overly normal is not a good thing 😅

Marcel, thank you for breaking down these Tony Rice licks like you do. I just hope folks learn to practice slow and clean before trying to be Tony Rice. I learned that some of the best pickin happens when you achieve getting in the zone in a bluegrass jam. The Zone would be good for a video. Yes, that magical zen thing that some pickers have experienced.

Another great video and the forearm rotation has proven extremely useful; it seems to help me get the rest of my arm ahead of my hand and kind of slingshot me down the neck a little bit faster. After doing it a few times, it just seems to give me a little more confidence and breathing room when moving down the neck a box on a quick lick. With a flick of the wrist haha... Thanks again

I have been playing Chet Atkins style for about 60 years. I think I am above average. BUT I have struggled with learning BlueGrass. Your lessons are helping me a lot so thank you. Why the world has so many critics and so few real pickers is simple. You don’t have to know anything to criticize. Matter of fact you can criticize even better if you know nothing.

Tony also would do descending double stops to get down neck and get out of a solo. Have you worked with these? I haven't (yet), but aware of hearing them, and that I don't know them
@LessonsWithMarcel3 жыл бұрын
Do you mean the descending triad licks? I talked about those in an article I wrote for Premier Guitar, I think it's example two! www.premierguitar.com/lessons/acoustic-lessons/tony-rice
@charleshill96493 жыл бұрын
@@LessonsWithMarcel I checked it out. I does seem the descending triads on D G B strings is the sound I was referring to. Thanks!

Hey Marcel, I know this request isn't bluegrass, but could you do a lesson on the guitar solo in Charlie Daniels Long Haired Country Boy, out of the bunches of videos on youtube, no one that I have seen has really broken it down and played it really slow. It's in the key of D and should be pretty simple, but I get lost after the first few notes, I can play the song, the intro, and even the walkdown lick, all I want is the solo!
@LessonsWithMarcel6 жыл бұрын
Alright, no promises but I'll check it out!

It decreases the distance and sets you up for the position change.

I'll call you when I need a body guard! Thanks for the kind words on the editing, it's caused more than a couple late nights but I want more high quality bluegrass content on KZbin. Hopefully I inspire some others to do the same for other instruments. Got some requests on Garcia breaks you'd like to see here?

Jerry's Jackaroo break starting at about 55 secs is really cool! and chalked full of jerry-isms... I had a book on his guitar stuff from the Shady Grove album But I threw in the towel before I had it figured out kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3jVpIabjbeXfZY&frags=pl%2Cwn
