Even drilling to 10KM down is a hugely difficult task that has only been achieved a handful of times. The heat and pressure at those depths destroys most drilling equipment.

I liked this one! Even though I didn't expect that I would. There's an older film called "The Core" that's pretty much the same idea except that in that one they have to restart the rotation of the core (don't recall what stopped it). Basically the two films were the same except for the details but this is the better of the two.

Their "Spartan Supercomputer" ain't so super no more. The computer sitting on my desk that I had built to my specs a few years back is hotter than their's and had it been built today it would be even more powerful, but it still wouldn't be a supercomputer. "Supercomputers" are mainframes and always have been. Their computing speed is measured in petaflops per second and if you want to see one go to the caverns beneath Maryland. That's where the NSA has their's. You won't find one on my desk or anybody's office; that's just absurd. Or maybe go look at what CERN is running.
