Join me for the beginning of a Showcase starting with the Setup video which will prepare you for the Blood and Flame campaign within Descent: Legends of the Dark created by Kara Centell-Dunk, Nathan I. Hajek and published by Fantasy Flight Games. Hoping the Showcase gives you the information you need to make an informed decision on it. Also stay tuned as we begin a solo playthrough in the land of Terrinoth together. Thanks for watching and looking forward to your thoughts and discussions in the comments below! Cheers :) *FYI:* It's worth mentioning that Descent promos are avaliable *only* for retail purchases (be sure to ask about them at your FLGS). The promos include nothing new gameplay wise but include alternate dials, alternate art cards and a pre-washed version of a miniature included in the base game. Additionally the GameTrayz are my own and not part of the base game. Intro 0:00 Overview 1:10 3D Terrain 3:23 Table Setup 4:16 App Setup, Campaign Introduction & Group Selections 11:08 Win & Loss Conditions 23:54 Rolling Solo Producers 25:41 *Is this the third edition of Descent: Journeys in the Dark?* Descent: Legends of the Dark is not the third edition of Descent: Journeys in the Dark. Although it shares the realm of Terrinoth and the top-level identity as a dungeon-crawling board game indicated by the Descent title, we see Legends of the Dark as a new addition to our catalog, rather than a third edition of Journeys in the Dark. Although Journeys in the Dark featured the Road to Legend companion app, that game was always designed as a competitive experience, pitting one to four hero players against a single overlord player. Legends of the Dark harnesses its integrated companion app to deliver a cooperative game from the very beginning, freeing you and your friends to fully focus on becoming the heroes of Terrinoth. "For years, your journeys have taken you across the fantasy realm of Terrinoth, venturing into dark forests, shadowy cities, ancient crypts, and misty swamps - but your true legend is about to begin. Forge your own legend together with friends as you adventure across the vibrant fantasy realm of Terrinoth in the co-operative dungeon-crawling board game Descent: Legends of the Dark. Powered by an integrated free companion app, Descent: Legends of the Dark puts you in the role of a budding hero with their own playstyle and abilities. Together with your unlikely companions, you'll begin an unexpected adventure - an adventure told across the sixteen quests of the "Blood and Flame" campaign. Throughout your campaign, you'll face undead lurking in the mists, demonic barbarians stalking the wilds, and even more terrifying threats. With 46 pieces of 3D terrain and forty hero and monster miniatures to draw you into the game, your greatest adventure is yet before you! Your objectives will change from quest to quest as you follow the overarching story of the campaign. Core gameplay mechanisms such as combat, fatigue, skills, items, and more have received completely new interpretations with Legends of the Dark, while a new approach to scenario layout and 3D terrain creates striking multi-level scenarios. Gameplay is fast and intuitive. You take three actions each turn: one maneuver action and two additional actions of your choice. Maneuvering gives you movement points, as shown in the upper right corner of the character sheet, and since you always have a maneuver action, you can reposition to put yourself in a more advantageous position for attack. Other than maneuvering, you can use an action to attack an enemy, rolling your attack dice and drawing upon your hero's abilities and weapons to deal maximum damage or inflict harmful conditions on your foes, or you may use the explore action to interact with a piece of 3D terrain or a token by using the app. You can also use your action to perform one of the most crucial actions in Legends of the Dark: the ready action, which lets you flip your hero sheet or one of your cards to its opposite side, unlocking new abilities! Your hero sheet isn't the only thing you can ready. Every hero also has an attack card and skill cards! Each hero starts the game with two weapon cards, which are sleeved together back-to-back to create a single attack card. Skill cards can also be readied, switching between two complementary abilities. The app also brings new changes to gameplay, introducing enemies with adaptable strategies, complex status effects, and triggers fully managed by the app, and the ability to develop your heroes based on the choices you make in scenarios. You'll also uncover a wealth of activity between scenarios, such as crafting, shopping in the city, upgrading equipment, and more. Because of these various differences, Descent: Legends of the Dark is not compatible with Descent: Journeys in the Dark and its expansions." *Media Inquiries:* rollingsologamer@gmail.com Want to support the channel? It does seem to be a lot like journeys in middle earth at this point! I get the 3d terrain will definitely be different. I'm excited to see this one played out!

Thanks for starting a playthrough. I've been looking forward to this playthrough even if my expectations are quite low for D:LotD. So far I haven't seen something that couldn't be replicated with physical components so it remains to be seen how essential an app really was. If the text was fully narrated that would be a nice touch, but if you have to read everything yourself, I'd rather do it from a binder as is the case with so many other story-driven board games. btw I can't get past how silly Brynn's helmet is. Totally inappropriate for a warrior. I'm all for fantasy art - fantasy is my favorite genre - but this is a great example of a bad design that comes when artistic creativity ignores entirely practicality and historic accuracy. I am just astonished that this made it all the way to the final product.

Fair thoughts! I can tell you the more I play this game the more I get pulled in by it. This game has the X factor that makes you want to play more seconds after ending a play. 👍🏼

It's nice seeing how the game has to be set-up, and the app guiding you with it. I wish that all of the gameplay was in the app itself though, since it would save you all the work of setting up physical things, and I always thinks to myself "if they have an app in the game, can't they also make all gameplay digital instead"? Either way, the app looks great, and I enjoyed hearing the story being told on the screen. Also, the way you presented everything (tabletop stuff, app, etc.) made it clear about what's going on with the table so that we can follow along, hence why I liked your set-up here. And just to ask, what do you use to record the tablet stuff for these videos. Do you have a capture device that links your tablet to the PC, and it records whatever is being shown on your tablet, and you can see what the video is recording on your PC as you set everything up? Either way, I look forward to the next part, and maybe you can leave future parts off in which you have your audience/viewers decide what you do next, like how you did The 7th Continent playthrough months ago with the viewers deciding what to do next at the end of each video.

If they make the game fully digital it caters to a completely different audience. Their are people who want zero technology in their board games, people who are ok with apps in games and other who are happy with any experience digital or tabletop. So for FFG it’s likely about staying with the two audiences that matter for them. The latter two. Yep, capturing the app on my PC and adding it into the video during editing. I will say that I realllly miss the ability to add voting into KZbin videos. I used to propose a question that would be tracked in the app for those type of community decisions. I loved doing those but the functionality got pulled. I think I will bring it back by asking the question in the pinned comment / video description. Thanks for watching, the next one is coming soon.

Why do you have the gametrayz for the tokens 😲 Is that from another game or a custom order?

I was pretty excited to see this ... and then the "nintendo-esque interminable exposition dialog" between the characters tossed a lot of water on my fire. I hope that's just for the prologue, and doesn't continue throughout the campaign.

We shall see! I didn't mind it personally as it's just the beginning of the adventure and choosing some options which will have ripple effects. Cheers!

I can't watch it. Managed about 10 minutes. I can see some people like it but it reminds me of late 60s, early 70s children's programmes like Mr Ben and Captain Pugwash and that isn't a compliment! And the stories for those were better! I don't see the point of having the minis and the terrain if it all happens on the app? Other than, if they sold it as a video game alone it would never sell because there a lot of very good video games that cost a lot less than the £174.99 being asked by Amazon in the UK. Seriously I wouldn't have it if they were giving it away.

That's a-ok! There's a lot of content in the box in terms of hours of gameplay. That's where the value is for me. Thanks for watching!

Agree. I'd like to see dark/gritty 'everything' in this type of game. Are they aiming at 12 year olds (albeit ones with long attention spans (how long to put everything together prior to starting?!))?
@RollingSolo
@RollingSolo 3 жыл бұрын
@@WhatHappenedFFS I got the 3D terrain put together in 20-25. First couple of pieces take an extra minute as you get a feel for how they connect. After that the process speeds up. Just don’t go so fast you bend the cardboard. I didn’t damage any of mine but I could see someone being overly aggressive and rushed bend a piece or two. By the end I really liked what they did with the terrain and hope other games follow this in the future. Gives the game great table presence and immersion.

I think the art of the underlays and game tiles could go up another notch but beyond that I love the art style. I’m also a big fan of Monkey Island and one entry had this type of art.
