The first question on page 17 of the Descent FAQ gives a good example of spending fatigue to upgrade a trait die. Also, you can buy and upgrade power dice with XP. After a while, you will have bought up to 5 dice, so it would be impossible to add a black die using fatigue. Upgrading existing trait dice would be the only way you could spend fatigue.
