They couldn't because the armor had that on lock. This is what happens when your team votes for a light assault air unit to go against a heavy armor unit. They have absolutely nothing meaningful to counter armor. Smart play would have been an ATGM fob on abandoned soviet or to the east of gas. You have to contend with their armor some how. On talil that means atgms or your own armor. I will agree though that OWI needs to make the timer shorter for the tanks with air assault factions

Tank team is just a lot easier to play here. Two equally skilled teams, airborne gets crushed 99 times out of 100.

Few of the nations involved had anticipated the length and scale of the war they had so suddenly found themselves in. Nowhere was this more apparent than on the Middle Eastern Front. Resistance, it was assumed, would be light and consist of security and reserve forces. This miscalculation of MEA strength was one of the greatest blunders of the war according to General Eli Beck, commander of the 1st Australian Division. "We were told to expect mixed reservists and irregular forces, lightly armed and poorly trained. Hell we landed on top of the entire 1st Iranian Armored Corp." Allied airborne forces throughout the region found their opposition far stronger than projected and no unit met all of its day one objectives. Nowhere was resistance stronger than at the Tallil Airbase in Iraq. Despite quickly overcoming the Iraqi security forces and gaining a foothold in the complex, elements of the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment found themselves under sudden counterattack by MEA armor. "We hadn't even dug trenches yet when the tanks appeared. Half of our AT hadn't even arrived," recalled Cpl Arthur Jackman. Compounding their problems, losses were high among their aerial resupply. Antiaircraft fire down multiple transport helicopters delivering much needed equipment. Many platoons in outlying villages were quickly overrun. Under the cover of heavy tank fire, Iranian infantry crossed the open ground around the airbase and deadly close quarters fighting ensued. Australian soldiers had to crawl between positions to avoid autocannon fire. Isolated squads fought from hastily fortified hangers and tunnels, but where eventually overwhelmed. With their objective now firmly out of reach, the focus of the 3rd Battalion became disengaging from the enemy and attempting a breakout towards the Allied ground forces to their west. Over the next two days, the infantry piled into what vehicles they still had and made a fighting withdrawal from the outskirts of Tallil. One noteworthy story is that of a lone Abrams which, firing from a hull down position behind a ridge, held off an armored column along the main highway, allowing the escape of an entire platoon of motorized infantry. The fate and identity of the tank crew has never been uncovered, but a memorial now rests at the Lavarack Barracks in Townsville.

@@astrodude9146 They could "do their job" because ausie didn't have anything to counter armor. If you have something that can counter you in armor, you don't push in and be aggressive. It'll get you killed, leaving the infantry to the mercy of their armor

The Aussie team could have setup some sneaky ATGM FOBs but instead they didn't build one until nearly 20 minutes into the game and put into in the most obvious spot on one of the main contested areas of the map. They shouldn't have tried to over extend themselves at the start of the game considering they knew they were up against an Armour centric team... Sit back and get your ATGMs up, take out a couple of Vehicles when they get over confident and push away from infantry support then use your Helis to get back into forward objectives and get your HAT teams out on the edges of the objectives you're capping. They barely used their Helis for scouting where the armour was pushing up to aswell. The Aussie team just kinda played like bots tbh.

I rarely see any TOWs going up when a team picks logistics (or similar air assault). If they do, you can't get anyone to help build it, so the tank crew is whistling and filing their nails watching you build the TOW before putting a round in you before you can even get it loaded. Or SL put it on the rooftop and you might as well hang a banner above it with a downward pointing arrow. Or it gets blown up and no one ever brings any construction to put another one up so you're getting rolled by armor all game. Or even though you can build two TOWs per HAB, no one even builds one. Everyone screaming for the ONE tank you get for logistics to come help against enemy armor, which is everywhere. Logistics favors defensive tactics. Everyone goes on the attack. and the two extra HATs you get go to people who just aren't any good with AT.

Either owi needs to shorten the tank spawn timer or just make a hard cap on allowing heavy armor units to go against air assault. Airborne units just get bodied anytime there is more than some IFVs

Armor and armor crew in squad is funny. They're superhuman which is kind of at odds with the tone of the game. If a t-72 is on fire like that, the crew is going to bail and abandon. Plenty of real war footage in Ukraine proves that

But in real life the crew doesn't respawn to a new life when they die and get another tank in 10 minutes. Squad is not realistic at all in that sense, make a 1 life event/match and you'll see people play in a waaaay more reserved way.
