@@kwalterrasquinha413, right. But. This centipede was only 5 inches long. I caught one in Oklahoma that was 6 and 3/4 inches long (more than 17cm) while cutting survey lines. The short version of the story is that the brand new gloves I had just bought, bore the scratches from the fight that ensued immediately after I grabbed it until the day I threw them away. Don't doubt, these things are extremely, surprisingly, terrifyingly strong. I've caught every type of venomous snake in the south eastern US and at no time doing that was I ever as scared as I was in the moments following that mistake, until I managed to get that hell spawn into a Gatorade bottle. Which, btw was the only way to get it loose from me. I had terribly and completely underestimated the strength of my opponent. After telling the dozer operators about how "big" it was, I was laughed at. They informed me that the one I caught was just a baby and they regularly saw them well over 15 inches long. Fuck. That. I never made the mistake of flipping over rocks with oval shaped burrows under them again. And if you are wondering how I know how long he was, "Oscar" drowned in the bucket I would release him into while cleaning the aquarium I kept him in. He was outside in the bucket and a thunderstorm filled it and he drowned. There would be no measuring him otherwise.

I saw some strange shit in those hills. One thing I never did get adjusted to was the number of tarantulas that would come out after rain storms. And yellow jackets that would build conical shaped nests like those of the bald faced hornet. Those I saw but not 15 in centipedes. And damned glad of it.
