Join us for a shake down test of our new camping tent/gear out in the desert campground at Colossal Cave Mountain Park where the mountain lions are well awake in the middle of the night!
----
In this week's adventure, we kick off our 2022 camping season with a shake down test of our new gear setup. We recently purchased a new tent (Carlsbad Dark Room Dome with Screen Room), 2 new cots (Trailhead II) and 2 self inflating camping pads from ‪@Colemancampfire‬ . We also used it as an opportunity to break in our new ‪@LifetimeProductsAssembly‬ 55 quart wheeled cooler! And not to forget our trusty ‪@lodgecastiron‬ Sportsman's Grill.
We loaded all of our gear up, plus our dog Mowgli, into our 2000 Jeep Cherokee for a short trip to the nearby Colossal Cave Mountain Park, just outside of Tucson, AZ. This desert riparian area is full of trees and wildlife. A perfect hidden gem.
We setup camp and cracked open some drinks before making dinner: Carne Asada tacos with chiles toreados & refried beans! A delicious and fitting dinner for what would end up being an adventurous night ahead of us. We made our way into the tent for a few hours of sleep before being awoken at 4:30am to the sound of something screaming in agony right behind us. Startled awake, including Mowgli who began shaking in fear, we anxiously awaited to hear foot steps of an animal near our tent. Fortunately, nothing came near, or at least not that we heard... we got out the camera and while it was dark, we were still able to catch the audio. The haunting cries/screams of a mountain lion close by... Fortunately, the screams trailed off into the distance and our adrenaline came back down. A wild night to remember, we made our way back to bed.
In the morning (after sleeping in a bit thanks to our comfortable tent) we got up and made some coffee with the french press and some breakfast - a bacon, egg, potato, onion, and bell pepper scramble. Enjoy the camping ASMR ;)
After a successful and eventful trip (our packing list worked out great!) to Colossal Cave, we packed down and out back home.
Thank you all for watching, we hope you enjoyed this different style of content! Let us know if you'd like to see more like this! Be sure to like, comment and subscribe and we'll see you in the next one!

Enjoyed this video. We've also experienced a fox screaming at night while camping, which sounds similar to a screaming woman, very disturbing to hear in the middle of the night. Looks like you had a beautiful site for camping.

Thank you! This was one of our favorite videos to make. When traveling and recording video, everything moves so quick and there's little time to plan your shots. When camping, time slows down and you can be more deliberate and enjoy the process. Hoping to do more camping soon, especially with the kayaks! Some animals can make some very unsettling sounds at night, and a tent doesn't offer the most security.

Wow. As an east coaster all my life, Arizona is such a pretty state. It is my absolute dream to either visit or live there. Great video! Subscribed!

We certainly take it for granted sometimes! Best part of Arizona is how diverse the geography is - a quick 30 minute drive from the saguaro filled desert, you can find yourself in the pine trees in a totally different landscape. You should enjoy this weekend's upcoming video from the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum! Thanks for the support!

First time I seen it was Friday September 3,1976 hitchhiking from nyc to LA started with 50 cents in my pocket, did it again in October of 76. Lived in quartzsite Arizona after moving from Georgia and truck driving

Enjoyed your video! We've tried to camp at Colossal Cave before, but the road was washed out due to monsoon and they wouldn't let us go back there. Looking forward to trying again sometime.

I have to be honest, this video was so relaxing and nice to watch! As always the presentation was on point! (especially those drone shots, damn those were nice) I'm going to have to try out your recipe for carne asada, as it made me hungry just watching you prepare it lol.

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed, this was a fun video to make and a bit different than our usual stuff. Can't go wrong with this recipe! Just use a skirt steak instead of a flank stead, it's a better cut for this recipe haha
