किसी ने सही कहा है कि अति का भला न बरसना, अति की भली न धूप लेकिन कहते है कि दो शब्द पिछले कुछ वर्षों से मौसम की चाल को कंट्रोल करते हैं....अल-नीनो आए तो सूखा ही सूखा और ला-नीना आए तो बाढ़। अब मौसम वैज्ञानिकों के मुताबिक अल-नीनो का प्रभाव खत्म हो रहा है। लेकिन इस बार का अल-नीनो अब तक का सबसे गर्म अल-नीनो था जिसने विश्व भर में गर्मी के औसत तापक्रम को रिकॉर्ड ऊँचाइयों तक पहुँचा दिया। आज समझेगें कि आखिर अलनीनो है क्या.. ये मौसम पर कैसे असर डालता है औऱ भारत में मॉनसून पर इसका असर कितना होता है और क्या अब अलनीनो का असर खत्म हो गया..क्या अब मॉनसून रफ्तार पकड़ेगा.

Introduction * Natural, periodic event * 1600year Peru fishermen- little child(child of Christ) * El Niño(Spanish)- droughts, la nino- floods * Most warming El Niño till date El Niño & La Niña * El Niño-Pacific Ocean- central & eastern sea surface temp rise, wind flow- east to west is restricted, less wind speed in December, upwelling of low level water thus surface temp rises, origin- nearby Peru coast * La Niño- sea surface temp fall Period of recurrence * Recurrence- 2 to 7 yrs, definite occurrence in 4-5 yrs * Persistence-9 months to 2 yrs * Episode- (severe nature), 2019 is normal category El nino * Weak El Niño because of monsoon period in India * Affects negatively in in increasing order of direction from Peru to Australia Differing Nature of El Niño in countries * Downward motion in India, Indonesia - monsoon weak due to El Niño,strong drought causing El Niño-1965, 1982, 1987 * Indian Ocean dipole- triggers good monsoon-positive IOD- counters strong El Niño (1997) Adverse impacts * Pacific energy rise due to increased temp-storm surges, drought, heat wave, forest fires in California, Australia * Climate change & global warming accentuates El Niño * Health- heatstroke India, France * Agriculture impacted due 5o delayed monsoons * Indirectly impacts- economy, life, & property, biodiversity El Niño & monsoons * Active break cycle-122 days monsoon duration( June - sept) * Mgo(madengeo occilation ) * -12% deficient till now, recovery later, IOD Agriculture adaptation * Crop pattern adaptation * Irrigation pattern

Addition El nino affect monsoon negatively as it warms more eastern side of pacific relative to western side hence it affect convection process leading to delaying and reduction in rainfall. Impact is more severe in aus,malyasia, Indonesia Positive IOD counter negative impact of el Nino

El Niño is the spanish word for The Boy/Boy, Heat is the mesculine property therefore name for this phonomenon is adopted and this phenomenon is found in south america and spanish is widely spoken in southern america that's why the spanish names for these two phenomenon are adopted. La Niña on the contrary stands for The Girl/Girl and cold or calm is a feminine property.
