Design & Architecture: Liverpool Street Elizabeth line station

Nestled in one of the City’s leading financial centres, surrounded by a continually evolving landscape of new buildings, the design for Liverpool Street Elizabeth line station makes the most of what little space is available. Stretching from Moorgate in the west to Broadgate in the east, the two Elizabeth line ticket halls are connected by mined platforms over 200 metres long and a central concourse. At Broadgate, the ticket hall entrance is through a striking, five-metre tall glass canopy that filters natural light into the station during the day, and acts as a lantern at night. At Moorgate the 65-metre wide entrance is framed by angled blue glass. The ticket halls provide direct interchange with the Northern, Central, Metropolitan, Circle and Hammersmith & City lines, as well as National Rail services to Stansted and Southend airports.
Both ticket halls feature an architectural design that helps to maximise height. A shallow, folded ceiling made of concrete breaks the perception of low flat ceilings to create a greater sense of space, scale and movement. Outside the station new pedestrian-friendly, accessible spaces allow people to gather and dwell whilst maintaining clear pedestrian flows in and out of the station.
