Anyone here living with a sofa that you KNOW is the wrong size for your living room? 🙋🏼♀️ What’s your biggest challenge when designing your small space?
@veroniquefauvette50498 ай бұрын
Since I have one single room for living and dinning table, my biggest challenge was to find which part should be first after the door when we come into the room : the dinning area or the sitting area ?? 😅 My two sofas seemed too small facing each other along the walls ( one is for 2/3 people, the other one is 2 meters long ...with legs 😉) so I bought a " crapaud" velvet chair...Only a small chair, but now my living room seems busy enough.😊

Definitely getting rid of furniture. It was $35 to take it to the dump because thrift stores didn’t want it. And we needed a trailer. I didn’t call bulky item pick up because they were in good condition and I thought they should be donated. Oh well. But it’s necessary to make the room for new things. Vacuum law of prosperity.

What curtains do you buy if you have a robovac? If you have one that touches the floor, the robovac might get stuck
@youbetcha1088 ай бұрын
Cats too are a problem with floor length curtains. I have to have window treatments but I only use them to cover drafts coming from the window profiles. They are window treatments not curtains. A curtain to me is a long panel that opens and closes. Window treatments are decorative and useful but only treat window issues such as hiding window hardware from shades or remote control boxes or keeping out window drafts. Also they are useful for exposed radiator issues.
@JulieKhuu8 ай бұрын
I have robovacs running with floor length curtains in my home. I simply draw the curtains back and keep them bunched on one side while the robot does its thing. It’s never been an issue since the curtains are too heavy to get caught in the tiny spinning brush. You can also bunch up the sides and place them on a nearby step stool or elevated surface. Hope that helps!

Great ideas, Julie. But my livingroom is soooo small, that I just can't start a conversation group. All the place is full with the sofa ( which is only a recamiere 1,60 m long), furniture to hide my belongings and all the books, the piano and that's it. I tried to install a little dining area but that makes it nearly impossible to walk ....🥴

Very few in fact virtually no designer ever talks about a piano. It changes the entire dynamic of design. I have an upright piano. Not much I can do about design. That’s me, I’m the husband with all those tools in my former studio 🙋🏼♀️😅 Keep ONLY what you use regularly. I found so many multiples and kept only the best (tools/ hardware/ equipment). Same process with my kitchen. Got rid of 20+ ok knives, invested in some premium Japanese ones and now I only keep 3 that I use daily. My drawers open with ease and I’m so much happier with less that work phenomenally vs. many that are just meh 🫤 When you’re short on space, you have to trim the excess. My problem is I only have one long wall to the left when you walk in the door, straight to the kitchen on right is 2 windows with a small wall in between. We like to watch TV. I have tried to figure out where to put the sofa. The only thing I came up with is to have sofa facing the long wall and its back will be towards kitchen. Could you please help? I hoped you would make a video like this, it was so helpful. I want to buy new living room furniture, but struggle to figure out size and scale. My home is 1173 sq feet and open concept. I only have three walls in what would be the considered the living room area, the tv wall, picture window that looks out into my front yard, and the entry way wall adjacent to the front door, with my kitchen open to the other side. I want to design the space around the two focal points (tv and picture window). My couch currently sits against the window so I'm staring straight into my kitchen and watching tv from a side view which I hate. I'd love a small L-shaped sectional that would face both focal points and create defined walkways between the kitchen and entryway, but I'm afraid my small living area will look too crowded, and I'm unsure about height. I think I'm going to have to call in the professionals.

If you purchase from any major retailer with an in-house design team (West Elm/ Ikea/ Ethan Allen for example) they will provide free design consultations to help you scale the right petite sectional for your space! Hi Julie I have a small living room. I can’t tell you how hard it was for me to find a small sofa I could put up against the only wall I had for it. It had to be less than 67”. I went everywhere some were very expensive and some would have to be second hand reupholstered. I finally found a curved small sofa with upholstered bun feet at Ethan Allen and it worked great until I had to get an upright piano for my children. Then I had to float that sofa in a corner astride the fireplace and opposite a wingback chair and ottoman. The final corner has a red maple Stickley closed office armoire. I also have two round end tables with matching mcm lamps. And a small Persian style bookcase. Nothing is too big. But it all seems to work except at Christmas when I have to push that sofa in front of the fireplace to put the tree up. I did draw it out at first but that was bf the piano. I did buy an 8x10 red bokhara rug and it helps the room look bigger. The only thing I would change are the side tables. They are round. I have rectangle ones in a hallway and I’m thinking of putting them in the lr. Shopping my house! Nice work ! Happy Easter!!!🐇💐 !!🥰🥰

I have a big leather (platinum) queen size sofa bed in a western style that was perfect in my small home but not in this tiny condo. However, it was custom made and I am not willing to part with it. While it's not on the longest wall (that honor goes to the 7 bookcases that are double-stacked with books...and home-canned foods), it is against the other longish wall. It's a shotgun style condo, old style; the kind where you can't open both front and back doors or the resulting hurricane will knock things off the walls. 🙄This place is not made for entertaining anyone but me, which suits me fine. I stopped worrying about decorating a long time ago; the only fix is to move into a bigger better place! I have beautiful seagrass rugs I bought for the living room but since I have cats, gave up on that idea (they would be shredded and barfed on). So, my decorating style, at this point, is more along the lines of "hoarder living in storage shed', or 'ugh' for short. 🤣

I get it! It’s prolly the most comfortable seat in the house, no one wants to give that up! 😅

I’m going to make a coffee table that fits over the ottoman. Love putting my feet up but not having stuff on the ottoman and this way I can decorate a table.

They make coffee tables with ottomans underneath, but I love your idea to repurpose what you already own Fiona 👏🏻

I’ve pinned a few from Pinterest so I’ll design it to suit me and the room. I’m making a custom firewood box this week and it’s turning out well. I’ve also recently made a skinny bedside table on castors so I can move it easily to make my waterbed in a smaller room. It has a built in tray too.

@@allinall2910 Go for it! My philosophy is just to try and have fun. If it isn’t perfect, distress the paintwork, add something to it to distract from whatever annoys you and make it rustic!

I had to laugh when you talked about furniture with legs and needing to clean under them. I prefer furniture with legs SO I can clean under them. Otherwise, I’m constantly pulling/pushing the furniture around to clean under or behind it. Dust bunnies make me crazy😂 I do appreciate that furniture either with legs makes my small space feel larger and more open airy.

All legs of all the furniture need to be on a rug. It always looks wonky otherwise. Your furniture can get damaged too with only two legs on...
