I think the weight of bottom slab can be reduced from the upward reaction load since it is acting in the direction of gravity and against reaction load. That will reduce the moment and in turn required reinforcement. The reinforcement calculations are done for maximum moment and same reinforcement is provided on both sides. The moments at support being considerably less to the span moments, saving in reinforcement can be achieved to help save the national resources on materials. Also the criteria for providing reinforcement in haunch is not clear.

Sir, in the side wall detailing, I think the 20 mm dia bar @180 mm spacing should be on the backfill side , not towards the stream side.. Because according to the moment diagram, the side walls are undergoing hogging moments only. And regarding haunch portion, how could we know that 3 bars of 8mm and 20 mm dia bars @200 mm spacing need to be put on the corners? Kindly reply
