Session 3: Design Principles for HRI
Chair: Jisun Park, NAVER LABS Europe
Title: Designerly approaches to envisioning human-robot collaborations. Nazli Cila, Delft University of Technology
Designerly thinking and methods are recognized as strategic in advancing robot development, application, and implementation. However, the use of design-specific methods, tools, and techniques is not yet wide-spread in the HRI community. Drawing from my work in designing human-robot interactions for diverse contexts such as dairy farming and upscale dining, as well as from my studies on unpacking HRI design methodologies and epistemology-including questions around what constitutes a design contribution, the nature of knowledge it generates, and its impact-this talk will explore various methods and approaches to designing robots. I will also discuss how to fully harness the potential of design as a discipline to advance HRI.
