These pokemon were very creative and a great edition to the Mazah region. Titanotrop is definitely my favorite. We have large pokemon and small pokemon, but we don't have much tall ones besides the dragon tree. If you halve the stats in the video, then it will for sure be weak. However if the stats were already shown as halved, then I think it will be a great pokemon. Like Slaking without truant, yet still struggling in the fact that grass types have so many weaknesses. I believed it has the potential to be a very balanced, and one of my favorite pokemon you've made. Keep up with the good work. - P.S. why not just call it The Mazah Project?

I think this entire evolution line is worthy of its own ability, for which I have an idea: Slippery - The Pokemon's smooth, slippery skin makes it impossible to trap. Moves and Abilities that prevent the Pokemon from switching out of battle have no effect. Not a crazy strong ability, but a flavourful one. Note that this wouldn't prevent damage from those moves, just stop the Pokemon from being trapped. Also missed opportunity for shiny Potassopod to be a blue ringed octopus, though the green is still nice.

I had an idea for 'Slippery' where it sometimes decreases the defense of opponents that hit with physical attacks or increases evasion at low HP. Another idea for an ability for the banagnaw line: Gourmand when this pokemon eats a berry, increase a stat depending on its flavor. (IDK if Gourmand is already an ability b/c it seems like there should be an ability with that name). Idea number 3: Cornucopia when this pokemon dies, give a berry to a pokemon in your party that isn't holding anything. It would be cool to have the line's abilities revolve around berries since it's also their evolutionary condition.
@ThefifthBishopofGord
@ThefifthBishopofGord 2 жыл бұрын
@@trashmystic7964 I think number 3 might fit Potassopod as it naturally eats many berries or an ability that might fit Potassopod is an ability that gives the berry it is holding to another Pokémon in the party when put on to the field.
@elpaco25
@elpaco25 2 жыл бұрын
Slippery: Any pokemon that switches into a pokemon with this ability will slip the following turn. So basically if the opponent chooses to switch into Potassopod they automatically flinch the very next turn they should be able to attack. Basically giving Potassopod 1 free turn to set up/attack/switch out/do whatever it likes. But this only activates IF the opponent chooses to switch out. Potassopod has some pretty basic stats so this ability would not be overpowered at all.

Because he definitely has to, otherwise Porassopod would become literally useless, if he wanted to keep a similar idea then he should give it a less crippling version of slow start that lasts for only like, 1 or 2 turns and instead of taking away half of it's attack and speed or whatever it only takes a third.

It's mostly balanced I'd say except for it's special attack stat. I think it's way too high, especially for a Pokémon with the ability Slow Start. You'd think that the special attack'd be lower than it's attack in that case, so I think it'd be better if attack was buffed to around 110 and special attack nerfed to around 90.

Loving the designs! I just have a small little clarification for the "banana fish" concept. The title of the manga named "banana fish" is a reference to a short story written by J. D. Salinger called "A perfect day for Banana Fish" In summary, the story is about a soldier named Seymour, who returned from world war II and is now trying to integrate back into society after the traumatic experience that is the battlefield. A certain day at the beach, Seymour talks to a young girl, explaining the term "Banana Fish", a regular fish who snucks into a hole to eat as many bananas as he can, like a pig, but later is unable to exit the hole after eating so many bananas, they die in that very same hole. The term "Banana fish" is used as a metaphor for soldiers who have been sent to war and experienced the violence within, and after all the damage they've caused, they are unable to rejoin society. And just like the banana fish, Seymour dies at the end of the story, ending his own life. Anyway, I know all its pretty dark for a pokemon concept, i just wanted to explain the meaning behind the original concept of the banana fish.

This is the first time I've actually liked a basic fish pokemon. I love the ocean, and how many types of fish and creatures live there, but throughout almost every Gen of Pokemon I have never been interested in the design of a basic fish, because that's all it really is, a stylized fish with added details. THIS, however, is exactly what I'd look for in a basic fish pokemon, something you could look at and be interested in, not just a fish. 10:58 Gamer here You actually aren't too crazy at all, if anything it's the inverse! Slow Start on a new pokemon is really cool, but these stats are actually too low for it. You could easily bump it closer to Regigigas in terms of stats: there's no need to match it, but just get a bit closer. Alternatively, you could opt for a more standard ability, in which case these stats work really well! Ripen, an ability which doubles the effects of Berries the user eats, is my favorite idea personally, and carrying over Harvest from Tropius also makes plenty of sense. You could also give Banagnaw and Nanahi Ripen as well: that would do well to synergize with their odd evolution method!

@mystery5906 2 жыл бұрын
i think titanotrop is plenty strong already. the other three, though... *takes in deep breath* I like the new Pokémon designs, but the stats for the banana fish I feel need some large buffs. I will be comparing them to the fish Pokémon that fit similar niches in other regions, which you alluded to near the beginning of the video. BANAGNAW Starting with Banagnaw, it has a BST (Base Stat Total) of 205. The other unevolved 2-stage fish Pokémon in other regions are Goldeen (320), Magikarp (200), Chinchou (330), Remoraid (300), Carvanha (305), Barboach (288), Feebas (200), Clamperl (345), Finneon (330), Frillish (335), Clauncher (330), Dewpider (269), and Arrokuda (280). (A quick disclaimer: you could choose to put more Pokémon on this list, or take some off, but this demonstrates my point fairly clearly. I also tried to pick at least one from each generation, even though some of them aren't actually fish.) As you can see, most of these unevolved fish Pokémon have a BST of 300 or higher. For the ones that don't, they evolve into some of the strongest Pokémon in the game, so their unevolved stats are a way to nerf them for a regular playthrough. This clearly applies to Magikarp (Gyarados), Feebas (Milotic), and Arrokuda (Barroskewda). Barboach and its evolution have fantastic typings, and Dewpider and its evolution have great abilities and a great movepool. This should show why Banagnaw's stats are less than stellar. Its very low BST of 205 would only be justified if its evolutions were top-tier, which, unfortunately, they are not. Its current spread is: HP: 20 ATK: 40 DEF: 25 SP. ATK: 25 SP. DEF: 30 SPD: 65 This could be left alone if you go heavy handed with buffs for Nanahi and Potassopod, but otherwise, I would increase its stats to this: HP: 20 ATK: 40 DEF: 75 SP. ATK: 35 SP. DEF: 50 SPD: 75 This would bring its BST up to 295. My justification for increasing its defenses is that it has that banana shell, and I imagine that it could be animated in-game as closing or 'zipping' its shell whenever it uses a status move such as withdraw, which it would probably have as a water type with a shell. My justification for increasing its speed is that its Pokédex entry says that its incredibly slippery. And finally, I increased its special attack so that it would be closer to 300. This wouldn't make it a good Pokémon by any stretch of the imagination, but it would be a bit better in the early game. Its barely mediocre defenses really wouldn't make too much of a difference with its pathetic base 20 hp, but that's okay, because it'll evolve after it eats some berries. Though, while we're on the subject, I would add an extra condition that Banagnaw has to be at least level ~30 before it can evolve, to stop you from catching it on route one and immediately having access to a fully evolved Pokémon. Unless, of course, you only run into it later in the game, in which case none of this matters. What will still matter is the stats of its evolutions, Nanahi and Potassopod. NANAHI Nanahi has a BST of 380. I'll list the BST's of the evolved forms of the Pokémon I listed earlier for comparison. This will apply to Potassopod, too, so I won't repeat this list later on. Those would be Seaking (450), Gyarados (540), Lanturn (460), Octillery (480), Sharpedo (460), Whiscash (468), Milotic (540), Huntail and Gorebyss (485), Lumineon (460), Jellicent (480), Clawitzer (500), Araquanid (454), and Barroskewda (490). Again, Nanahi has a very low BST when compared to its peers. We can see that the stronger unevolved forms evolve into Pokémon with BST's between 450 and 500, while the weaker ones, Magikarp and Feebas, get 540 upon evolution. Nanahi's current spread is: HP: 50 ATK: 70 DEF: 50 SP. ATK: 45 SP. DEF: 50 SPD: 115 If we gave Banagnaw buffs, then I would give Nanahi this: HP: 60 ATK: 90 DEF: 100 SP. ATK: 70 SP. DEF: 60 SPD: 115 A healthy slathering across all of its stats but speed would bring its BST up to 495, which is quite respectable. I increased Nanahi's attack and defense because its Pokédex entry tells of it speeding up, ramming into ships, and coming away unharmed, which really doesn't match having a terrible base 50 defense and a very mediocre base 70 attack. Hp, special attack, and special defense are just there to give it a bit more to work with, letting it use special moves and survive special hits just a tad better. Swift swim means Nanahi could afford to run a speed dropping nature in order to not drop any of its other stats, and run a mixed attacking set with good defense and decent special defense. If we didn't buff Banagnaw earlier, and decided to make Nanahi even stronger to compensate, I would go with this: HP: 60 ATK: 90 DEF: 100 SP. ATK: 75 SP. DEF: 100 SPD: 115 Now this, THIS is a chonky banana boy. With a BST of 540, it now stands alongside Gyarados and Milotic as one of the strongest water types. Adding to everything I said before is a slight increase to special attack and a huge increase to special defense, meaning it'll be taking Thunderbolts like a champ. If the previous change made it usable, this makes it a requirement on every team (okay, not quite, but close). Its attacking stats aren't the best, but its defenses mean it'll be able to get off more attacks before anything can whittle it down. Its speed is already fantastic, and if you fear Regieleki outspeeding you, then you can just put it on a rain team in order to go twice as fast. If it had a good hp stat, it would have to be classified as a pseudo-legendary Pokémon (ignoring the three-stage requirement). Do these changes make Nanahi absolutely busted? Ya. Am I doing it anyways? Ya. POTASSOPOD Potassopod has a BST of 380, which is the same as Nanahi. Unfortunately, this means it is also terrible. Its current spread is this: HP: 75 ATK: 55 DEF: 50 SP. ATK: 65 SP. DEF: 115 SPD: 20 Potassopod has one, single thing going for it: good special bulk. However, it also has a couple problems, mainly the fact that every other stat it has is terrible. The only thing that could almost be a positive is its very low speed, which could be used on Trick Room teams. Unfortunately, even if it moves first every turn, its going to be able to do absolutely nothing to the opposing pokemon. I suppose it could use a status move like Toxic, but it's completely outclassed by Pokémon like Amoonguss (hehehe) in every way. Despite my harsh criticisms, though, I believe we can take Potassopod and make it something amazing. Here are its new stats for a decent second-stage water Pokémon: HP: 75 ATK: 55 DEF: 50 SP. ATK: 180 SP. DEF: 115 SPD: 20 "You think this is funny?" "In a cosmic sorta way, yes." "Well, Mr. funny-man - is this how you get your sick kicks?" "What, it's just an ordinary Poké- OH MY GOODNESS!!!" You may have noticed that I have dumped all 115 points - the amount required to bring it up to 495, Nanahi's total - into a single stat: special attack. This is because I am insane. It's also because I think something this absurd is exactly what Potassopod needs. You look at its pathetic speed, its terrible physical bulk, and you laugh. But if you let the banana peel catch you slippin', you're gonna be in for a world of hurt. Its aforementioned speed will let basically any Pokémon get a free attack on it, and if it's physical, then it doesn't stand much of a chance to survive. The place I expect Potassopod would thrive is in Trick Room teams. Its base 20 speed suddenly becomes one of the best in the entire game, and its ungodly base 180 special attack should decimate just about anything it comes across. Shed Skin as an ability means you can't even burn it, freeze it, paralyze it, or put it to sleep, and it's immune to not only Toxic, thanks to it's poison typing, but also the various spore moves, thanks to it's grass typing. Of course, it's not unstoppable - it needs Trick Room to be up in order to be any good, and since that only lasts for five turns, stalling it out will give you a chance to either take it out or stop the opponent from setting up another Trick Room (Potassopod itself wouldn't get this move). Priority moves are unaffected by Trick Room, and most of them are physical, meaning a couple of those would put a stop to Potassopod as well. If the opponent can put a stop to those, or if you only have special attackers, then it very well may sweep your entire team. If you thought that was it for Potassopod, then you were sorely mistaken. It still gets another option with a BST of 540. And so, here it is: HP: 85 ATK: 55 DEF: 50 SP. ATK: 180 SP. DEF: 145 SPD: 25 With this, Potassopod has become an even stronger special wall, with an extra 30 points in special defense, and 10 in hp. This also slightly improves its physical defense, though it still has basically all the same weaknesses. I also gave it 5 extra points in speed, which basically just means that more slow Pokémon will be able to outspeed it in Trick Room, or that it will be able to outspeed them in normal battle conditions. Though, why would you ever use a Pokémon with these stats outside of Trick Room? Anyways, I was pretty harsh on all three of these Pokémon for their stats, so I want to reiterate that I LOVE their designs. I think they're all incredibly cool, and I know that I would want a Banagnaw on my team, and then have a hard time choosing between Nanahi and Potassopod. It's because I think they're such good concepts that I want their stats to reflect that, and why I spent like an hour writing this. Great work as always, Subjectively Man.

@@mystery5906 I'd say you could actually have the base stat totals directly mirror the Clamperl line, leaning more on speed with the extra points to play with on Banagnaw, as well as a more even spread to branch from. Also, keep the banana shell more Special Def leaning by default to oppose a more traditional hard shell and to mirror the peel focused evo's Sp Def. BANAGNAW HP: 20 ATK: 50 DEF: 65 SP. ATK: 40 SP. DEF: 75 SPD: 95 NANAHI HP: 60 ATK: 90 DEF: 100 SP. ATK: 30 SP. DEF: 75 SPD: 130 Removed mixed attacking potential for more Spd and keeping the Sp Def from the base form. This was partially motivated by the possibility mentioned in other comment threads of giving this line a signature Slippery Ability, which could ignore Traps, Binding, and Hazards instead of being able to lean on rain for the Spd boost. (Will still speed tie a bunch of other quick Pokemon, though.) POTASSOPOD HP: 70 ATK: 25 DEF: 75 SP. ATK: 175 SP. DEF: 115 SPD: 25 Avoided letting it tie for highest Sp Atk of all time and went with the reduced Trick Room potential for a bit more bulk. Although, it may still be a bit too common of a Pokemon to give such a huge damage potential to, so I'll add one a bit more in keeping with the original spread: HP: 100 ATK: 35 DEF: 75 SP. ATK: 110 SP. DEF: 145 SPD: 20 ...This is also a good idea so Titanotrop still outclasses it in damage potential, since that alternate grass banana option is literally just a block of stats thanks to getting nothing from its Ability, while Potassopod has Shed Skin (or possibly Slippery) to factor in.

What's funny to me is that Slow Start has virtually no effect on Titanotrop. It's going to use its sp.atk, which isn't halved by slow start, and its base speed is 35 so halving it is kinda whatever. Regigigas is over there being totally crippled by it, and this one just doesn't have to care. That aside, great video!

Oh no. Tropius hasn't made use of its special move pool since gen 4, excluding Air Slash. It's firmly a stall pokemon with the ability Harvest. It's other two sun based abilities theoretically give it the ability to do things with its extremely shallow special movepool, but it's a mediocre grass type, it's never going to outcompete other mediocre grass types that have slightly less awful moves. Slows start absolutely ruins this mon cause assuming it has the same movepool as tropius, it is now a worse tropius that can easily be setup on and can't hit back particularly hard cause all it's got is energy ball, air slash, leaf storm, and dragon pulse to choose for attacks, and all it's utility has been cripled thanks to no longer having Harvest. If it had harvest it would be a premiere sun wall that would be almost impossible to get rid of in lower tiers. Slow start absolutely kills this thing cause Tropius has no coverage, and it lost STAB on the only attacking move it's used since gen 5.

@@PKMN649 I get your point but like It's not Tropius Who knows what new moves it could have What if it had a signature banana move that runs off its special attack. I say, just because Tropius is played physically doesn't mean its evolution can't have a good special movepool.

@@PKMN649 Not really. The thing is hilariously slow with base 35 speed, is no longer crippled by the additional flying type, and actually has immense bulk with 130/105/90 base bulk. Slow Start only neuters Attack/Speed, and this thing has higher SpAtk, so with the combination of lower Attack and already laughable speed, Slow Start doesn't really hurt it that much. I'd see this thing leaning more into a defensive wall build rather than a slow sweeper. Give it Synthesis/Leaf Storm/Leech Seed/Air Slash and it'll do just fine. Tangrowth is a slow physical wall with usable SpAtk and a mediocre movepool, and even without Regenerator it's not low tier simply because Grass walls check the strongest offensive typings in the meta with those being Ground, Water, and Electric. I even did some calcs versus Weavile with Icicle Crash and this is what it comes to-- 252 Atk Weavile Icicle Crash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tropius: 186-218 (40 - 46.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery 3 hits to kill from one of the BEST offensive Ice types is actually really good defenses. Then, not only that but... 4 SpA Tropius Leaf Storm vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Weavile: 187-222 (66.5 - 79%) -- guaranteed 2HKO Titanotrop would just outright kill Weavile before Weavile could kill it. It would actually be a pretty damn strong defensive wall, it wouldn't be OU material, especially if Tangrowth is there simply because of Regenerator, but it could definitely be UU, and Slow Start would actually make it really good in Trick Room teams and you could invest into it's Special Attack. Even if it didn't gain any new moves, which I'm sure it'd at least get Ancient Power/Earth Power at the least, here's some calcs on that... 252+ SpA Choice Specs Tropius Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Toxapex: 243-286 (79.9 - 94%) -- guaranteed 2HKO Nearly OHKO'ing standard Toxapex, and Slow Start on a Trick Room team would pretty much guarantee you don't get outsped by anything without priority unless it's name is Shuckle or Pyukumuku. You're definitely not giving this thing credit where credit is due, it'd be viable in UU/RU at the very least, and that's just with Tropius's learnset. If it got coverage like Earth Power or even Ancient Power it could be much better.

I like the new Pokémon designs, but the stats for the banana fish I feel need some large buffs (Titanotrop is fine, and actually very strong as a special attacker on Trick Room teams). This will apply to Potassopod, too, so I won't repeat this list later on. maybe if it eats a berry it’s speed could be maxed out or raised between 3-5 stages, this combined with baton pass would be really interesting competitively bc if u predict what your opponent is doing you could switch it in to get it on low health so it eats a sitrus berry and than baton pass into your sweeper. Also the ability should obviously be called “Going Bananas”
@SwoleTommyPickles
@SwoleTommyPickles 2 жыл бұрын
Considering it has swift swim now, I’d just make it’s speed double if it consumed a berry. It’s Swift Swim with a stricter activation condition and it’ll likely only happen once per battle considering u can only hold 1 berry. Only going up 1 stage is terrible considering the 1 time limitation, at least Swift Swim is always lasts the duration of the rain in the event you have to switch it out and isn’t limited to once per battle.

I had a similar idea to this called 'Gourmand' where the pokemon gains a stat buff based on the berry's flavor (since the Dex entry said that sweet things increase speed but not all berries are sweet). Also had an idea for an ability (that I called cornucopia) to synergise with this (that would come from a pokemon that you get from the Potassopod evolution in a ninjask/shedinja way) that would allow you to bring out a pokemon from your party and feed one of the berries used for the Potassopod evolution to that pokemon when this pokemon faints (allowing two activations of Gourmand in one battle).

Since it is so massive it could cast "Shade" or something? so that only it feels the effect of weather. so like other pokemon on the field with sand veil or whatever don't get the boost but then only it gets buffeted by sand and hail or whatever other effects? Harvest might be too much for this thing but it would still be cool to see lol

I like the idea of Banagnaw evolving into one of 6 forms based on stats, as in the Pokédex entry for Nanahi it’s said that “the swiftest Banagnaw in the school” will evolve into it. So if speed is the Banagnaw’s highest stat, it evolves into Nanahi, with a different form for each stat, all of them capable of leaving a Potassopod behind, similar to Shedinja, if they’ve eaten the five different berries mentioned.

As many have pointed this out, the Base Stats on Titanotrop are far from being insane, because being slow with a crippling defensive typing is just that bad. Also, Slow Start is actually good for this Pokémon - it will take less damage from moves like Gyro Ball and you can definitely count on it being the fastest under Trick Room with no damage reductions since it is a special attacker. Still, assuming a regular movepool, Titanotrop would probably not see much play. However, I would like to imagine a scenario where Titanotrop has a signature move that is basically a Special, Grass-type Gyro Ball, which deals more damage the slower the user is than the target, capped at a Base Power of 150. Assuming access to such a move, the absolute minimum Speed Titanotrop can have (which is 33 at Level 100 with a Quiet Nature, 0 Speed IVs and EVs and Slow Start active), and maximum Special Attack with the Choice Specs equipped, Titanotrop can dish out some serious damage: 252+ SpA Choice Specs Titanotrop "Gyro Ball" (150 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-Therian: 459-540 (120.1 - 141.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO 252+ SpA Choice Specs Titanotrop "Gyro Ball" (150 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Kartana: 226-267 (87.2 - 103%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock 252+ SpA Choice Specs Titanotrop "Gyro Ball" (150 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Bisharp: 254-299 (93.7 - 110.3%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock Even stuff like Zapdos and most Metagross are 2HKOed, making switching in a daunting task. It still has common weaknesses and will fall to strong super-effective moves especially when they are backed up by items like Life Orb or Choice items, but it isn't unrealistic to think that this Titanotrop would see at least decent play in Trick Room teams.
