I watch Garden Answer too but find nothing relatable anymore 😔 I have a budget and a standard yard and am unable to buy the property next to mine if I want more space!😂 I love your garden and really enjoy your videos much more than theirs! I think most of us can relate to gardeners more like you than with Laura at Garden Answer because most of us don’t have very large properties/gardens or have access to a family nursery. Its hard to apply her projects or ideas to my yard or garden because I just don’t have that much room or funds. She is fun to watch though. I love watching anything aquatic. I love your pot with the evergreens surrounding it. That was the perfect solution to that spot.❤

@@TheEnthusiasticGardener We've been having rain too, not happy about the tornado watch last night. There was a tornado that hit a house just down the rd, that was in 1998, I think. Hasn't happen since or really been a thing. Last yr a huge one about 25-30 mins away went thru a huge field, lucky it wasn't in a neighborhood. I couldn't get over the video they shared on the weather channel. Still fighting the Japanese beetles, I'm buying assassin bugs to help with those next yr. They've made me crazy again this summer. But all in all, I'm good 😂

I love your car! I stopped watching GA for several months as I couldn't relate, and when I found you, I knew I had found the channel I was looking for. I absolutely love your garden and your channel! While Garden Answer is good I most love to watch you being enthusiastic in your garden because your enthusiasm is contagious and I think 'I could do that' and it fills me with hope that if I keep trying one day my garden will look as lovely as yours. Hello, Janette! It looks lovely! I would love to have a formal garden! I just discovered Murphy’s Garden channel, and I don’t think I could keep up with a formal garden. I just started planting in a new flowerbed. I cut out a border around a circle of lawn in front of my veggie garden-inspired by your garden! 🥰 I was so tempted to make it into a formal planting, but I’m more of a cottage gardener. I decided to make it a mixed border. Every time I planted something yesterday, I said to myself, “plant it high and it won’t die!”🤣 That got into my head, too. I always plant high because I do have lots of spots of standing water after rain. I’m working on improving soil slowly. There’s always something to work on in the garden. I love everything you bought for your new space! Enjoy your week!😘

Hello Dawn, I’ve watched Murphy’s Garden too!! I think the downside to formal gardens is if something dies. Then things no longer match. Your new border sounds so lovely!! I love it that there is a garden style for everyone, and no two gardens will ever look the same, the possibilities to add our own tastes are endless. Hi Janette, I love the new plantings, that pot is just beautiful. Garden Answer was the first KZbin channel I watched but I find I like and benefit more from channels like yours and not sure why but I just love English gardens and English gardeners. Yours and Middlesize garden are my two favorite KZbin channels but must add Jim Putnam from Hortube is fabulous as well and so knowledgeable.

Hi Janette, I love the euonymus ( every time you mention them I think of hippopotamus and I have a little laugh ) I couldn't agree with you more about planting things that grow well for you. I've tried certain plants that would always die with the hope that the next time they'd be okay. Now I finally accept that some plants won't do well for me and I just don't try them anymore . Oh me too! I’ve tried things like yukkas which died in the winter. I’d love beautiful tropical looking plants but you’re right, the sooner we accept what works the better our gardens will be. It’s exactly what I had in mind and I was so pleased I found what I was looking for … very often that doesn’t happen! We do have a spotlight on the Trachycarpus but I don’t think it will reach far enough round to shine on the pot but I can have a look. Good idea. Hasn't our 'summer' been awful this year? I love your new pot area, it looks fabulous. I need to thin my garden, too many plants have grown and hidden others. So I think I'm going to have to decide on my favourites and which do well in my garden and others will have to be up for adoption!!! xx

Sadly the boxwood moth has also hit Canada😂! 🌸🇨🇦 I too have been building up on my perennial evergreens as I am in zone 5. I’m devastated for everyone with these boxtree moths and caterpillars, you won’t know this as you’ve only just seen my channel but I had gorgeous boxwoods, all topiaries and I had to take them all out after trying to battle them with traps and sprays for probably 4 years, I gave up! It was causing too much stress (and money) when our gardens should be pleasurable. That’s why I said I had vowed never to plant them again. I can’t believe they have travelled over to you. But yes, these Ilex are a superb alternative, they look exactly the same in my opinion. Hope you’re having a great day ♥️

Hello there Marie and thank you so much. I don’t think I have that much room left for plants any more 😆 and I think I’ve moved everything around that needed to be moved. However, I always seem to find another spot to work on 😆 a garden is never finished and I think I might try to put some more plants in the area where my little greenhouse is next. The channel I mentioned is called Garden Answer and it’s probably the biggest garden channel there is, if you haven’t seen it then you definitely must!! So many great projects and they post every day. I love it! Hope you have a fabulous day ♥️

Hi Janette, I love your new corner. The cone and the ivy look great together 😊. I am still purservering with box wood. So far this year, I have just about managed to keep on top of the caterpillars! But it is , as you know, an ongoing battle. It is our moving week. The plants went yesterday. It took the 4 removal men 2 hours to load the 2 vans with all my pots and containers. I am still leaving a lot of plants behind in the garden.😢 So it will not look bear for the folk moving in.

The. reason for so many pots is because I live in houses that come with my job. So move every 5 years on average. I do plant some things in the ground, but I end up leaving a lot behind. In 5 years I retire so will have my own garden again 😊

Looking very lovely. I love the contrast between the ivy and the topiary type tree in the center of your new pot. It’s extremely hot here. We are struggling to keep plants with enough water. It was 50 degrees Celsius today. I can’t wait for a bit cooler weather.

@@TheEnthusiasticGardener yes, way to hot. I couldn’t get out but a few minutes today. I watered well yesterday and we got a little shower today. That was so wonderful. It stays hot here until mid October unless we get a cool front which this year it’s looking much warmer than normal. I’m hoping in November it will be cooler. Oh I love the pot and you did well with all of your plant selections.

Hi Jeanette like what you have done to the space I also like euonymus and use them a lot, one thing I will warn you about is the Ivy I also had that variety left over from my hanging basket I put it in a brick build planter and it managed to pull the bricks apart and before we new it it was all along the fence in my garden and my neighbours we are still try to eradicate it so just be very careful xx

I’m loving my little car, it’s so much fun and I’m getting used to driving it now, I’m not the sort of person who can jump straight into a new car, I have to get used to it - great for easy parking 😆 I’m glad to find a good alternative to boxwoods, they look the same to me and won’t get any pest problems 🤞 so that’s good. 😆😆 Penny, when I put the pot there I thought OMG I think I should have gone for something smaller, and Rich thought the same, but I think I’ve hidden some of it now and it seems to look more in scale 😆 so glad you like what I’ve planted 😊 I think those 3 little PICEAs would look nice there, plus it will save me money buying lots of other things … although then of course I’ll have to find something else to replace them 😆 oh my goodness it never ends 😆 our gardens are never finished! Janette, I love your new plantings, they look amazing there, and definitely bring interest to that corner. TBH, I’m not a fan of ivy as we had so much to pull up when we first bought our house, they can spread like wildfire. But yours looks beautiful as a spiller and it will be contained. Your car is beautiful and it’s my favorite color too🫶. I watch GA too, I love when Laura and her mom go thrifting. Aquascapes makes great products, that’s the pond that we installed ourselves, lots of work but so rewarding, of course mine is nowhere near what Laura’s is, but I’m happy🙌. Hi Elizabeth and thank you as always, as I say I’m not normally an Ivy fan but when I got that pot last week I got it in place and thought OMG it’s massive, I need to camouflage it a bit and Ivy was a quick easy option, I hate the ones growing through my fence 😆 I’m loving my little run around car too 🚗 so lovely for parking 😊 and yes, I love seeing Laura and her Mum thrifting too. In fact Mum and I went thrifting just yesterday which was fun. I bet your pond is just gorgeous, hope you’re having a great week ♥️

Hi Jeanette, your giant pot and area around it looks really good. The trailing ivy with the topiary works well. I too like the formal structure look, it shows careful thought and planning. Good job. I always appreciate how you re constantly configuring your garden with both new and shifts of existing plants, noted by me. At the moment I have been neglecting my garden expect the front one. My excuse is poor, away in Wales last week followed new doubled glazed windows fitted on our return followed by decorating the lounge, again !! Hi Julie, I can highly highly recommend the 500. Tons of headroom, I’m 5’9” and Rich is 6’0” and it’s absolutely fine. Not much room for passengers in the back though, that’s the only thing, but we don’t have passengers so weren’t worried about that. You should have a sit in one. They’re such fun. Lovely colours too (ours is called “Glam Coral” 😆). Hope you’re having a great week ♥️ and oh yes I just love Linda Vater’s stepping stones so might try that. Did you see her new back garden paving and back door steps? I think it looks amazing!! 😊

Hello there, and thank you! I put about 3 or 4 inches of broken up bricks in the bottom for good drainage, and I found a bag of vermiculite in the shed so I poured that in too, and then the rest is all compost. I had asked Richard if he could cut the bottom off to make it a bottomless pot but he said no, it’s terracotta (or similar) and he thought he might crack the pot. I thought I may as well just fill completely with compost and not try and skimp by using something else. Thanks so much, I really love it and hope you’re having a great day ♥️

Do you know what variety the ivy is? what, I think, would look good are a couple of upright Ivy - Hedera helix Erecta in front of the pot, possibly between the Ilex. This Ivy has upright non-clinging stems with small leaves that start pale yellow green then age to dark green. Have a look at ‘Duckfoot’, ‘Midas Touch”, and ‘Kaleidoscope’ for the very front.

Hello Mark! I just googled those Ivy’s you suggested. Very interesting idea, I have not heard of uprights like those before. You are always a wealth of knowledge and I feel like I have my own personal garden designer on hand 🙏 I have no idea what my ivies are, I’m calling them controllable Ivy’s 😆 clotted cream perhaps?
