Nice tones! I'm very happy with this new update. Now the microfreak's got grit! workflow tip: you can access the unison spread by holding Shift+paraphonic and moving the data knob.

Whoah-Unison is the really crazy upgrade for 3.0-I think more than anything else. But it should work on all the oscillator types? Or is it just the 3 new ones? Thanks for posting.

Great video. I too, am exploring ways to get, Buchla style boops and beeps, noises and tweets, from my twin freaking MicroFreaks. I'm embracing the chaos, hidden inside this little gem. Firmware update #3, and your video, puts me closer to that goal. Thanks for sharing, and best wishes for your continued success.

I've concluded that the discovery of novel and usable patches is a product of random chance. And it's not always a fruitful process.

There's definitely experimentation that happens, but the more you know about sound design and a specific synth, the easier it gets to create cool stuff and happy accidents.

If you like this synth, you would have LOVED the Buchla synth I played back in the 70s!!! Very similar.
@luminousbrilliance17113 жыл бұрын
The vintage Buchlas I played back in the 1990s had capacitive keyboards as well. And I remember those actually (sucking-ahem um being not as quickly responsive, or not having so many parameters they could tweak real time-err-um) compared to how responsive the New Arturia keyboard is. I think it's because the oscillators are digital or something. Not to dis you or Don Buchla at all

Cool patches. Makes me want one all the more. And after watching your vid on GAS. 😂 Well ok I wanted one before too. Seems like such a creative synth at such a great deal. Arturia is so on it these days. And yeah, I hit subscribe now. 😃

Hi Gabe! Thanks for a great walkthrough of some of the fun new stuff in the MF. As a prospective buyer of this synth, I'm curious of your take on the mono output, particularly with regards to the new unison effect. I'm coming from the DAW world and over there, unison does some pretty amazing things to the width of the sound since the detuned sub oscillators really are panned on either side, making the effect incredibly noticeable, which no doubt plays into its popularity in some genres like EDM. I saw another video where you explained your workflow of sampling from the MF into the MC-101, but doesn't that mean you're stuck with mono samples in the end? I saw another video by someone who actually recorded the MF into the DAW twice to get slightly different takes hard panned left or right to achieve a true stereo effect, but that seems like a lot of extra work. What's your sense here - do you just don't care that much about wide stereo leads, or do you use other tricks like Haas delays to achieve a wider sound in the DAW?

Yeah every synth nerd comes to the point where he doesnt need modular
@Magnus_Loov3 жыл бұрын
Having matrix modulation on a Synth (like Microfreak) where you can actually store the patches and recall them is beating modular in every aspect for me. Not only don't you have to fiddle with cables everywhere (takes longer time than to just set the source-destination in the matrix for a Synth like Microfreak) you can actually recall several of these crazy modulations within a patch, which can't be done with physical patcihng! I have never, ever understood why "physical" modular is so popular. I mean you can get the same type of crazy sounds as in this video. Often there is the "fart sound" video you see on youtube with far less interesting sounds with people sitting for marathons where not much is changing. Then they probably will have to take a photo of the whole d-mn setup to recall it later, which is just f-ing ridiculous!
@albedo0point393 жыл бұрын
This. I found myself planning out modules.... Mutable plaits, 2 envelopes, vcas, oberheim style filter... ending up with almost the same functionality as a Microfreak for 10x the cost and size. And still no chords, unison or paraphony. Just makes no sense.
@TheCuri3 жыл бұрын
@@albedo0point39 I think recreating an exiting synth voice is not the strange of modular as I See the wackyness and strange modules more to be desired when building a modular setup. Of course it is expensive but using modules that do not have synth counterparts is what you should Look at in modular
