That was at least double what it needed for sure. Tests were done with transparent material and the X alone performed near perfectly in even coverage of the whole space. Increasing that amount will just make a mess, like too much batter in a waffle iron

Designs By IFR Ik you need to cover the cpu but I’d use less then half of what was used as the cooler would compress the paste and it would spread its self
