@@bradcrampton8920 let me ask you a question... You refer to Christ as an "imaginary friend"... why is that? is it because you have never met Him? I am not being disrespectful but how can you make a statement like that? I have never met you but i trust that you are very real... as a matter of fact there are people that know you and love you and spend time with you even if i have never met you, i can say that you are not real but the evidence is seen in the lives of the people that you have affected... my point (and forgive me if i am making this confusing) is that you are making a statement about a God that i have met... not face to face or in a physical sense but He has changed my life and continues to do so... the evidence is often seen in those that do know HIM.... i must admit that there have been many times that i have failed to live my life like i know HIM, but even those times do not reduce His "realness". I hope that you may take some time to investigate HIM, not with predetermined ideas but an open mind as to His genuineness.... Again... this is not meant to start a war of words on a KZbin stream but to share with you my personal relationship with HIM...my real Lord

@@angiescott4601 I have investigated him quite thoroughly, having been a believer for over 15 years. I was in a state of mind similar to yours that you have at present. Suffice to say that over time, I recognized that it was false and abandoned the faith at some point. It didn't happen over night, in fact it was a process that took a few years. The similarities with the faith and an imaginary friend are as you stated: i have met... not face to face or in a physical sense That's a pretty good definition of an imaginary companion, it seems real and I can make it sort of real but it is not real. In fact it is so similar to the kind of friends that kids imagine - it's kind of eerie that a grown up can do this also. (Is that why jesus admonishes to become as little children?) His messages come through feelings and dreams with no direct contact. Sounds a little suspicious. Another interesting similarity is that he answers prayers about as reliably as a flip of the coin. My main conclusion is summarized as follows: I think most believers don't much understand the power of imagination. One can enhance their mood just by picturing someone they love in their mind. Happiness can be increased by being grateful. Forgiving and feeling forgiven can lighten the load when feeling down. All these techniques are valid psychological tools that do not require any belief system of gods and goblins. Religion has capitalized on believers by providing a supernatural explanation to those who lack the knowledge of imagination.

Oh... my... goodness. What is so amazing is that I already new this. What John Piper has just preached, the Holy Spirit has been telling me for years. I believe the Holy Spirit has been telling me this over and over and over again. Everytime I pick up my cellphone. That quiet, still, LOUD voice at the core of my being I hear the Holy Spirit say, "Pray" And I ignore it...over and over and over again. Excuse after excuse after excuse not to pray. His voice is so quiet, yet so loud it is deafening. My excuses prove that the Holy Spirit is screaming at me to "Pray" I am such a sucker.

💯 I _initially_ try to pray _before_ I even open my eyes in the morning, _before_ any thoughts on the day _rush to the front of mind_ & try to take a position of most importance, _before_ I'm tempted to think _I'm strong enough_ to go throughout my day _in my own strength_ without His empowering grace, _before_ I'm tempted to think _I'm clever enough_ to solve all the problems of the day _and the problems of tomorrow_ without His wise counsel & Divine guidance, _before_ I'm tempted to think that _yesterday's manna is enough_ to nourish & sustain me without gathering & feeding on my _Daily Bread_ today, _before_ I conclude _I don't have enough time_ to bother with consulting Him & receiving all I need for the day in front of me, instead of realizing the more that lies before me, _the more time I need to spend in prayer_ 🙏🏼

There's a huge irony that during this segment of the sermon, the devil seems all powerful to keep us away from regular times with God Almighty with such ease. I blame it on the clipping itself (as it's not a full sermon), not Pastor John, but I find it necessary to bring up: the only way to escape the temptations away from prayer... is by calling out to God and trusting he will provide. There's the irony. I am young, but my experience has taught me that my fullness is so incapable of keeping routine--hold on--so, I cry out to God, and ask his Spirit to fill me and to control my fullness. This always makes me think about the "drunk with wine, but be filled" passages. And I wait. I hope that nothing I said will bring any contention. Just needed to spitball for my own sake.

John Pipper makes me look at God and my relationship with Him. ❤ a friend said he wanted a particular blessing and if he didn’t get it he would be angry and depressed. (Paraphrasing) And I saw something or something made me search it and post it It just made me think so much It was Awesome It said “God owes us nothing We owe God everything!” I prayed for him but I prayed If it’s God’s Will that he have this thing he so desires and as long as it doesn’t hurt him in anyway. Thank you for Mr John Piper Lord He helps me understand like what Paul said nothing else matters but Christ! Let me live like you lived Lord , to seek after the things in heaven and not after the things of this world! Let me always have a yearning desire to want to know you more and to do your Will Glory to God In Jesus name Amen

Praise God! Here is confirmation and reminders of those things previously and presently known and experiencing. And, here's new suggestions that are very practical and apply well to my own spiritual life in Christ. Often, I've needed to add circles to include more souls to pray for, and the events going on in the world. I have a tendency to get so caught up in--focused upon my own sanctification in prayer that I forget everything else because of the intense emotionalism involved with a deep desire to be holy as He is holy. But I fear I'm too often so judgemental of myself that I find it taking up the bulk of my prayer time. The prayer-timee scheduleing is so very true and needed. We do have a very shrewd enemy in Satan. The enemy within--the flesh is bad enough without having an enemy such as he. Yet Our God is all sufficient for all our needs: spiritually, materially and emotionally. God bless you all, in Christ Jesus.

@@Magicwitch777 you are right and biblically wise to be asking God to help your unbelief. It is possible to believe and still have unbelief. (Mark 9:24) also read James 1; it talks about trials we go through, asking God for wisdom and believing he does, and about temptation and sin. He does also forgive you. God already knew you would sin, he knew every thought before you think it. He knew every word you would say before you speak, and he already knew every action you would take or not take, and yet He loves you unconditionally anyways. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 NIV bible.com/bible/111/1jn.1.9.NIV And as a Christian you are a new creation: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV And the is no condemnation for those who are in Christ: Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, Romans 8:1 NIV Read the rest of that chapter to understand why you are not condemned. Thank you for having the courage to be vulnerable asking for help. I will pray for you Megan that God guides you in His truth and helps you overcome your unbelief. And I pray you don't become discouraged by what others say or think but that you focus on Christ and learn who He his, his character, and His love, grace, and mercy for you, and that you will see yourself the way he sees you. In Jesus's name amen. Everything you go through, including your sin becomes a part of your testimony to others, showing how God delivers, restores, loves, who He is, etc. All bringing Him glory to save others who are lost.

You are still a sinner. We are all still sinners...yet we are saved because we have accepted that Jesus paid the penalty for all our sins; the ones committed in the past AND the ones we'll commit in the future. We are not perfect yet but the Holy Spirit is the first gift to us promised so that we can believe that he can be trusted that we will and are being made perfect. So we are still sinners yet in Christ we are not condemned.

Repentance = greek word for metanoia which means to change your mind, in the context of true salvific biblical repentance what it is saying is change your MIND from UNBELIEF in Christ alone as your savior (aka trusting in yourself, trusting in your law keeping, trusting in your "turning from sins") and BELIEVE in the Lord Jesus Christs finished redemptive work on the cross for remission of your sins. The gospel is the same today as it was 2000 years ago and it will never change, we are justified by GRACE alone through FAITH alone in CHRIST alone.

Legit questions, not trying to troll: When a believer prays, what occurs? What actually happens that convinces you that someone heard and responded? I understand the idea that not all prayer would be answered. But, can anyone describe an answer to a prayer that wasn’t something that was likely to happened anyway? Thanks
@gmac8586

Many many times have I seen prayer answered, both little requests and big. God has never let me down but these have to be requests that align with his will. People let me down all the time but even when I doubt, God has never let me down. The trick is sometimes recognizing when God has answered a prayer and thanking him afterwards. Some little things I forget that I had prayed for, and then I thank him and smile at how amazing he is. How do you know it's him? It's too precise, the timing was too perfect, everything just "fell into place" so that it had to be him. You just know.

[5] For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; [6] Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. 1 Timothy 4:9-11 KJVS [9] This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation. This is amazing. Prayer is a duty and it should be done out of a place of discipline! Another thing a brother of mine has once shared with me is that prayer is actually for yourself and not God. Prayer is to build yourself up. The more we realise that the more we see the importance of prayer. As Pastor John Piper titled this message, if you don't pray, you won't live! I thank God for this message. Amen!

11:59 and the "it's your fault" part right that the end really struck me. I have wandered away and been brought back to repentance so many times I can't even count them. And it seems that every time I wander further I just wait for God to do something, to bring me back to my knees. He is faithful and always does, but I know I live an undisciplined Christian life. Every time God brings me back to repentance, I run with strength for a while, and then I quickly grow weary and give up time and time again. God has given me new life, and my laziness is not His fault. My lack of planning is not His fault. My refusal to listen to the conviction of the Spirit and repent is not His fault. I should be bearing fruit and have a responsibility to do so. Not that it will save me, but as a natural part of my new life in Christ. I am thankful for God's grace and mercy through all of my trespasses and wicked willful sinning against him. I am thankful for Christ's sacrifice on my behalf for my sins. God bless all of you as we continue to grow in Christ and bear fruit in His name.

It’s vitally important to keep consistent in prayer, faithful in attending Church, persistence in serving, willing to give. It may seem like “legalism” but these are the things that keeps us strong, healthy and protected. It also reflects a Godly order of things. Remember the enemy operates in chaos. Don’t stop.

Gerri Stratton I think people have lost their way. They don’t take God’s word literally when he says we will be with him in heaven for eternity. More people need to be taught to treasure up the joy we will have in the next life, like Jesus did when he was in despair before the crucifixion, how he picked himself up with the promise God made. Just wanted to share lol.

"Sleep every night? For goodness sake, mix it up!" Haha I laughed at that one. It's true, in today's culture that encourages the loosening of boundaries and rules in order to reinforce a feeling of personal freedom, it becomes easy to conflate healthy routines that facilitate obedience to Christ with legalism. So often, it is that any form of spiritual structure must mean we are experiencing bondage from being our true selves, when it can actually help us avoid that which will surely destroy us whenever we are feeling particularly rebellious or curious about the world surrounding us. Freedom with no aim only leads us to aim at everything and be sure about nothing. Yet, freely choosing biblically-sound ways to narrow our focus on Him and avoid the noise helps us see Christ more clearly, and, in return, how he reveals his vision of the real us. This issue is truly a pivotal temptation of our times.

I neglected prayer or played at it for many years though I knew God was calling me to it. At some point he got ahold of my heart with the help of a book written by D.A. Carson. Although I spend considerable time in prayer now, God still points to my weaknesses when it comes to praying properly. I have learned a great deal about Him and myself over time that I'm not sure I could have learned any other way except by prayer. It is difficult, deep, sometimes discouraging, but a vital discipline.
