This is what I've done with my Steam deck for a very long time now. I got it during the 1 year sale and I've been just using it as my PC since my previous one was less powerful than the steam deck. I primarily use it for Blender and Unity stuff (ironically the basically the one thing you said you might not do it on) and it honestly works fine. I also felt like just still using the Linux operating system, which I was initially doing out of laziness but I've ended up having a great time with it.

If it’s not a secret, how much have you used Steam Decks as a PC, how do you feel about working on a large monitor and using Linux in general? Thank you. P.S. There is an idea to sell PC with 3070 and take a steam deck or Lenovo.

Honestly, the Legion Go is a super cool device. The idea of owning a machine that can be used as a handheld, a tablet, AND a desktop PC is pretty appealing. It could honestly be a viable alternative to having a traditional desktop or laptop as your main device. That being said I own a Steam Deck, an RTX 3070 powered desktop, and I just ordered an ROG Ally. So obviously I'm not planning on getting this one at the moment. Perhaps in the future I'll switch over and sell my desktop rig and Ally but for now I'm just gonna refrain from spending more money lol. But it is pretty cool what Lenovo did here.

Get your money ready. It’s all about speed. You want Thunderbolt (or “TB” 4. Then it’s about I/O ports. The Ivanky dock isn’t TB4 but if you use it, you can EASILY buy some USB 3 to USB C converters. They are tiny and add almost nothing to the hub’s footprint. But I’m sidelining my Ivanky and going with an Acasis TB 4 hub. It has three TB 4 USB C outs which is great. To make use of TB4 ports though (and at that point you are almost THERE), you are going to need devices which send data at the highest speeds possible. I use my Lenovo Legion Go as both a PC and also for some gaming. I have all kinds of games installed…from DCS Flight Simulator to Halo Infinite, Star Trek Infinite and Battlestar Resurgence. So many titles to have fun with…and also the productivity option is off the charts with Windws, all of the office apps and AI (I use Google Bard).

As a laptop user, what I love about the handheld concept is it's portability. Laptops are of course more portable than a desktop but in reality, they really aren't super portable. Especially the modern gaming laptops, which I own. They are quite big, and battery runs for about an hour , and setting it up to play games is a hassle. These handhelds might have less power but being able to throw it in my bag, and take it out and game wherever I am sounds amazing. Even more the idea of being able to do some work on it.

@@snwboi4evr I also have a steam deck, it's a thick boy to pack in my back pack. My laptop though is thin and fits in the sleeve without thickening out any space. I've also grown tired of the deck's incompatibility with many games whether bc of anitcheat or it's just too weak to run, or too clunky to play competitively in handheld. We all have our preferences and I'm glad there are options but I don't see how it's a better deal to pay for a thicker, weaker, no keyboard, smaller battery and screen, yet long and heavy for a hand held device over a similarly speced laptop. Apu laptops are cheap, and thin Gpu laptops can be had for the same prices. One day these things will be a lot more ergonomic, light weight, and more powerful gameboys at more affordable prices I hope.

you should try setting up one of those egpus that work over thunderbolt. they have a really small one with a 6700xt mobile inside which would drastically improve performance on the ally and legion go since they have basically full scale laptop chips. the steam deck isnt really a good candidate for this since it only has a 15w 4 core cpu which is better for scaling to the Igpu built in
