It sure is a beautiful place your in. I at one time climbed a few mountains with others and had a small lake at the top what a great time we had. Am not able anymore for that track up and down but enjoy seeing what your doing and again the beauty of it all. Thanks for taking us a long. Be safe.

I love it when you go hiking and fishing in my backyard. I’m to old and beat up to do that kind of stuff anymore. It’s too hard for me to breathe a that elevation also. Enough winning here lol. Thank you for taking me along without having to get off my chair. Keep it up buddy, great videos. 👁🦉👁

Nice trip. Ropi Lake is a great spot. I can't believe how little snow there is at Aloha. 3 weeks ago it was covered. Thanks for the fishing report.

Super cool trip! I love Desolation Valley! I just did an overnight on the other side of Crystal Range @ Twin Lakes last week and it was amazing out there! Testing out new camera and equipment as well. This summer is going to be full of adventures! Can't wait to see where your heading too! BTW, tried your coffee suggestion with Nescafe 3in1 and DUDE... you were right! Thanks for the tips.

What a beautiful place to be. Anyone ever mention to tap your sawyer filter on a rock or hard surface then flush. You’ll be amazed how much debris flushes out. Awesome trip!

Interesting I will try that.

Kyle, if you you use a smart water bottle (clean water, not the unfiltered of course) with a sport cap it works great for back flushing the sawyer. So easy you can back flush a lot because you already have if out when filtering.
@BurleyOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
I have tried that. I find it works ok but not as well as the syringe. Just my experience

2 pearls I’d like to share with you. Blowing up a pack raft sucks unless you use the Flextail pump! We are fans of the Supai Adventure Matkat packraft and came across this amazing little pump. It comes with multiple nozzles so you can use it for your inflatable sleeping pad. Easy peasy! Second, ditch the Sawyer and go to the Katadyn BeFree and a smart water bottle. Some drink directly from the BeFree 1L flexible bottle but I prefer a separate bottle from the filter… I’ll send link to my review of the Flextail in a separate comment… We are looking to do more pack rafting/fishing trips in the future. For now we have primarily used the packraft to get to the other side of the Colorado River to backpack the northern side of the Grand Canyon. Always a rush taking on the mighty CR! Yew!
Backflush with some white vinegar mixed with water. I have same filter and it works great after the backflush. Also.. the CNOC fill bag to pair with it is an amazing upgrade. I forget if you already have one or not.
@BurleyOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
K I will try that. I have looked at the CNOC but can’t seem to justify the price for a plastic bag.
@CaliWilderness2 жыл бұрын
@@BurleyOutdoors I was hesitant to spend $23 on one as well. But it's well worth the money! I went with the 2l bag as the 3L one just looked a bit much. Its survived quite a few trips so far!

Subbed! Great vlog rpisode! Perhaps I missed the detail but what make and model of packraft was that?
@BurleyOutdoors5 ай бұрын
That raft was made in like 2012-ish. At the time it was called the Yak. The maker is Alpacka Raft and I think they have renamed the models a few times since then.

Just got back from two nights in Desolation. Lake Aloha is incredibly low, the good news is the fishing is great. The fish seemed to be condensed in areas. Morning bite was great. In 30 minutes I caught six. All about 10-12". 1/4-3/8oz gold Castmaster.

Nice! I was up in the mountains last weekend too. Water levels are really down.

@@BurleyOutdoors Nice. I actually downloaded your latest gear video and watched it Sunday night at Aloha. Definitely a lot colder than I had expected. An evening dew soaked everything and some areas were iced over in the morning.

Love your videos. I enjoyed them when you were still living in the Midwest, but now that you’re out here in Northern California they’re even more fun. You mentioned maybe trying snap swivels. I’d just get snaps. Those cheap snap swivels just jam under pressure, and don’t rotate anyway, so they’re really not worth it. Snaps alone are lighter, and as I fish ultralight, and change my lures often, I’ve found them to be a great option. A great small lure to use in the wind here in Northern California it’s a blue and silver Kastmaster. I thought I might’ve spotted one in the video, but if you haven’t tried them yet give them a shot.

For an overnight, what is the overall weight you pack? Or what would be your recommendation for hiking to a alpine lake?
@BurleyOutdoors Жыл бұрын
That depends on a lot of factors. Weather, area, needing a bear can etc. For this trip I was around 13-14 with a bear can and camera gear. The packraft gear added at least another 8-10 lbs. with most modern gear a base weight of 10-15lbs is fairly common. I used to be all about weighing things. I don’t do that anymore and just use what I like and what I know works for me.
