Mr Hamada wasgranted an asylum in Netherlands in 2014. He traveled countries and did testimony but the world failed to act. Also Dutch goverment cut their support for him. He saw returning to Damascus as his only option. Assad regime promised him a safe return, which was of course a lie. Rest in peace, brave man.

The lack of safety net to save a vulnerable state, ascribed to the fragile nature of mafia style nepotism hold on power while not allowing a state instructions nor any degree of accountability. Western dictatorships on the contrary tended to maintain a reasonable administrative infrastructure, something doesn’t exist in Arab World, as all the key people melts away once central power collapses . Romania and Argentina had dictatorships but the state infrastructure though modest wطere capable of continuity even moving forward .
