Im inclined to disagree with this pediatrician (although I understand what she's saying) -- there has got to be a way to make safe, quality baby formula at home...maybe not entirely from scratch, but you can get a lot of raw and hard to find ingredients on eBay and Amazon these days, and there's gotta be youtube chemists and nutritionists who can put together good instructional videos on how to make it and make it safely (and perhaps even without the toxins that might be in the big name brands). Also seems to me that, for mothers who have no problem producing milk, now is a time when their donations matter more than ever.
@cormacthem84062 жыл бұрын
Here’s the problem. It’s really easy to get the amounts of sodium in each ingredient off. Too much sodium or water is toxic in a little body. The amount of that would depend on the baby’s weight, there’s just so many ways making your own formula can go tragically wrong. Don’t do it.

This is ridiculous. In 1966 when I had my daughter at Mt.Sinai hospital in Chicago which handled at risk pregnancies and had four nurseries they recommended I switch to whole milk diluted with water because she was gaining too much weight. At the time women were encouraged to use formula instead of breastfeeding so we weren't prepared to breastfeed. I also used cloth diapers because who wants to put paper and plastic on their babies? At the time no-one. You can use cows milk if they haven't taken everything out to make more side products with it to make more money. Half half is now the closest you can get to real milk. When I was a baby I was allergic to almost all milk except goats milk so that's what I lived on. Bad enough what they charge you to have a baby now you don't have to make other people rich and you broke if you don't have to. I also remember the first formula lacking some necessary ingredients and causing real problems so I'd rather trust a cow or a goat if mom can't breastfeed.
