Teri hatcher started of as the main wife but as season 1 progressed it was clear she did not have the acting ability to pull off the main actress and they made her more mediocre and gave her mediocre storylines as the ditsy airhead type . It became clear that marcia cross had the acting chops and was an engaging character and she became the leading housewife and they gave her all the best dramatic storylines. By late season 1/ early season 2 it was clear she was the new lead and i think it's fair to say she maintained that status for the rest of the show.

@shanefolan
@shanefolan 5 жыл бұрын
@@Euroviking86 yea Hatcher was good mainly in the 1st season which is when she win but as the series progressed they kept repeating the same story for her over and over and the critics soon turned on her as an unlikeable character and recycling the mike/susan story turning her character into a 1 trick pony. I can only imagine Hatcher became demoralised and bitter over how she was written and this had something to do with the alleged tension between her and rest because I am thinking Hatcher[being the biggest star pre DH] signed on the promise that she would be the lead of the show and when they demoted her character as the series progressed it caused friction as she wasn't getting the deal she had signed for and was left with egg on her face. The exact same thing happened with Rob Lowe in his comeback in The West Wing except Lowe was candid and addressed it publically after he quit the show-basically he got hired as the lead and then they demoted him which wasn't what he signed up for. Although in fairness I thought Hatcher's character improved in her later years when the writing and direction improved for her and they stopped writing her like a 22 year old and gave her meatier stuff. She was good in season 7 and season 8. Seasons 5 and 6 were written pretty poorly for all the cast as the storylines were all generally poor.

@@shanefolan they made Marcia and Felicity do the dramatic roles, while Eva got the comic relief and later got dramatic from season six onwards. Teri received... well, they just didn't know what to do with her character. The Dave Williams mystery was great but its another season of Susan and Mike's will-they-wont-they. Also notice how Susan is barely involved with the disaster episodes which are the episode where the casts get to show their real acting chops (she was absent during the tornado and plane crash, she just laid down during the riot, waited outside during the market shooting.) I skipped most of her scenes because I got tired of her but she got interesting when she became an art teacher, had financial issues and became a short-lived painter.

@@tyresmith9833 Which is what I said, it wasn't as good as season 1 but it still wasn't 'bad' per se. Cherry had left the writing team that season which was what fans say caused its decline but certainly Bree's downfall and subsequent spiral into despair amid the falling apart of her family unit in the season was enough to make it a good memorable watch throughout. A huge mistake they made this season which still confuses was hire 1 of tv's strongest actresses, Alfre Woodard as Betty, and then do so little with such a brilliant award winning actress. She could have been utilised so much more in this season and they could have given her much heavier scenes-seems like a very waisted opportunity. Why would they even hire such an acclaimed actress and then hardly use her? I think seasons 5 and 6 is what many fans say were the worst of the series as the writers simply seemed to run out of ideas.

@@shanefolan From what I've seen, Seasons 7 and 8 are widely considered the worst of the series, particularly Season 8. 5 is a bit more polarizing than the earlier seasons though, as some people hated it. Season 6 was a bit similar, but Angie became a fan favorite, especially compared to the mixed reception toward Renee Perry.

@@Joe_Parmesan Season 8 started off very well in fairness but through out its later arc and conclusion it went to shit. The reveal of Orson as the card sender was revealed much too soon when they could have done much more with that imho. @@Widdekuu91 I get the feeling that Phyllis and rex had a very fractured relationship so it diminished her grief-she was angry, bitter and resentful that Bree stole her son away and resentful to Rex for letting it happen and ultimately abandoning her. The truth is that when the living around you have little presence no matter what their relation to you then when they die the grief can be diminished. What I'm saying is that rex had probably been dead to Phyllis for years before his physical death as they'd lost contact. The fact that Phyllis used his death to get attention from others with theatrical over the top public displays of grief and point score against Bree undermined her genuine grief.
