I may be wrong, but there was a rumor that the Carlos character was originally intended to be written off the show early on because it was already established that Carlos and Gaby’s marriage was in the rocks since the beginning of Season 1 and Gaby’s affair would have been the catalyst for Carlos to divorce Gaby’s and be written off completely. But they changed their minds once they saw how good the chemistry between Eva and Ricardo have had with each other and wanted to expand on Carlos and Gaby’s relationship throughout the show.
