Take it from someone who recently graduated from college. It doesn’t matter where you go, all that matters is what you’re studying. I live near Claremont college, and many of my friends have graduated from there. They have okay jobs, but they could have gotten the same job with a degree from any school. Personally, I went to SDSU, but I work with people who went to UCLA, USC, Stanford, etc. In the end it doesn’t matter, but I’ll tell you what…she’s gonna regret having all that debt from one of the most expensive private colleges in the nation. Hopefully her major is something in STEM.

As someone in their 30s who went to high school in Hawaii, is Hawaiian, went to college and is now a multimillionaire, college really didn't help me that much in a career. If you're going to college make sure you really need it. I learned more on KZbin/online than I ever did in college plus it's more applicable. The best education for business was doing it and learning from the smartest people online. My business degree was pretty worthless in that regard

community college. You can go to college anytime in your life. You don't have to put yourself in debt for your first degree.

Unless you gonna be a doctor, scientist, engineer or accountant then it’s not worth it. Community college then transfer is the cheapest option. Or join a trade and actually work for a living.

Agree. Don't want to be creating more debt and not have a job to support that education while chipping away at it. 👍

My nephew graduated last Saturday as one of forty valedictorians in his class. While the others are going straight to expensive big schools in the mainland, my nephew is going community college for his first two years (for general transferable classes) and then transfer to a mainland school afterwards to save $$$.

One of the things I learned when my two kids were hi school seniors and were looking for mainland schools to attend,, I came to realize that many mainland schools come to Honolulu to make a pitch for their schools. These mainland schools want the best and the brightest. If your kid is a straight A student and have a very high SAT score, there may be a mainland school out there that would offer your kid an academic scholarship... full or partial. Why? Because after you kid graduates from college and becomes a big contributing member of society, your kid will represent that college. "So which college did you graduate from?" "No kidding?" "How were you able to afford going there?" "Had a scholarship." Excellent grades and a very high SAT score is the ticket. Does your kid play the trumpet or drums well? If your kid is not a gifted athlete, you might look to see if the college offer marching band scholarships (or some kind of music scholarship). I believe there are colleges who do offer marching band scholaships. Colleges want...and then offer. You just gotta find out what they want.

Word of advice for High School seniors applying for colleges. It doesn’t matter what college you graduate from. When you apply for jobs, employers don’t care if went to Harvard or UH. Experience is your #1 asset. For me as in example, I graduated from UH West Oahu, my first job ever in tech I got it from over a Cal Berkeley guy because I had more experience on internships and projects. So don’t be fooled that you have to go to a good named school.

It also depends on what she's dedicating to study, like either join the military, make a business, or go to the financial aid route are options

It’s not only the school. It’s the living experience,,,,rent , food, payment for bills, entertainment all to be considered and more…. If you can go to college near home…go for it….and you still have to support them at least a year after graduating…good luck🙏🙏🙏🙏💝💝

College is really only worthwhile if you plan on becoming a doctor or lawyer, anything other than that and you’d be better off going to a community college, trade school or getting experience.

There are two things that I have taken away from my education experience because I could have saved my parents so much money and I wouldn't have had as many student loans that I had to pay off despite all the loans and scholarships I received. One, I should have started out the first two years at a local community college to get all my prerequisites done. And two, where you go for college doesn't matter because I went to graduate school with students from well known (expensive) schools and I did not, but I end up being the top of one my classes. The main thing that matters most is the person and their will to get what they want.

What's wrong with this picture? You have a father who is a counselor for college bound students, who he himself didn't plan properly for his own daughter going to college. You wanna bring a life in this world, you got to save early with a college fund, and seek all the help you can funding college. Appears this family didn't have a plan for college. Plan B; go to military for a few, get out and get educated free.

The fact he's supposed to be knowing what to do and even he cannot do it by himself is mind boggling. The average single parent stressing out over their 9-5 is not gonna know what to do. College is meant to prey and profit from people like this

@@sirij8784 I agree. The choice for college narrows down to their budget. She should consider a local community college for a couple years, then transfer to the college they can afford. Live within your means.

Why are parents obligated to pay for college $50k per year when they are adults 18 years old? Pay your own way or get a student loan or don’t go college. Don’t make your parents bankrupt
