"I moved to Dublin in 2015, and have had the opportunity to learn so much during my time here. But more importantly, I've made some really good friends, hiked some lovely mountains, and seen some beautiful beaches. I even worked as a band-photographer for two years!
DCU's academic atmosphere is one that I've greatly cherished. Apart from the research, we also get the opportunity to get some teaching experience before we finish. The relationship between the faculty and students--especially PhD students--that I've seen here is different from the kind we are used to in India and one that I hope to practice in my own academic career.
In general, the PhD can be a long and tiring process. It helps that DCU has a very vibrant Students Union and many active societies that PhD students can be a part of, but also that Dublin, in general, is a buzzing city with lots to see and do. Staying locked in over the last year has reminded me even more how important a social life is!"
What's it like to study for a PhD at DCU? How does the application process work? How do you make the most of the experience?
For this week's Destination DCU I spoke to Harikrishnan Sasikumar, who obtained his PhD from the School of Law and Government at Dublin City University. Hari is now a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute for International Conflict Resolution and Reconstruction (IICRR) at DCU.
