She seems to choose a 1v1 fight with Zavala, without a chance of winning. Not crippling and killing Zavala, while he's distracted. Even the seasonal artifact has lore about the honor and tradition of the Cabals, this assassination attempt goes against it all.
@voltus203 жыл бұрын
We see that now, but we have to remember she was one of the main perpetrators of the midnight coup. Staging a coup instead of challenging a leader head on doesn't seem like the most honorable thing, hell, for all we know, she might be playing the "honorable warrior" in front of their people to keep them united, all the while staging the assasination in secret. She even has the perfect scapegoat if it was discovered, "it was a champion trying to gain a seat in the war council in a dishonorable way". If anything, that would show that despite her hate for her father, she still retains some semblance of Calus, and tactics like that would reflect it.

I know this is kind of random, but the cicadas in the cutscene caught my attention. Cicadas represent immortality and resurrection, fitting a Guardian’s, well, theme. But, they can also represent deception, especially concerning deceiving the enemy in warfare. So maybe the Pison was a decoy and it would make sense that Caital wasn’t even the one to send it. The reason the cicadas caught my attention in the first place was because I thought it was weird to find them in the obviously cold region that is the Last City, especially in the late winter.

I've loved Crow's storyline so far. Every time he calls another guardian or member of the Vanguard out on something it's almost always something I've personally longed to say to their faces. Because of his history and experiences he has a much different outlook on the world and events rather than these characters that lore wise have been around for ages. Because of that i feel like Crow is a much more engaging character since he desires to actually do something rather than the Vanguard who i feel have lost their touch and nerve ever since the Red War. It could have been Lord Saladin being manipulated by his hatred by one of the two Hive sisters. His hate for the cabal has been very clearly demonstrated in multiple pieces of dialogue (and rightfully so). Assasinating (or at least an attempt) Zavala would create full fledged hatred for the cabal and the guardians would wipe them out totally.
@RunningRisks3 жыл бұрын
I like this take. Having not played The Rise of Iron expansion I can't REALLY say, but Lord Saladin has seemed wayyyy too eager to commit genocide against the Cabal. i was thinking this as well. Saladin doesnt care about what the cabal have faced or are going through, he just wants to wipe them out (would have been nice for the wuss to come down from his mountaintop fortress during the red war but oh well). Hes also been showing his dissatisfaction with Zavala's leadership during this in the battlegrounds dialogues, and ive been getting the feeling that it might be leading up to an attempted coup from him and some of his followers. This might have been an attempt to kill 2 birds with one stone (as hes mentioned doing in the Cosmodrome battleground): take out Zavala, opening the way for him to take full command/control, and generate enough hatred and anger towards the Cabal to get the guardians to go full genocide on them. I'm very glad you made this video! The moment I heard Saladin talking about Caiatl sending an assassin, I was immediately like "No, that's not her M.O.". For one, despite her role in the midnight coup, Caiatl wants HONORABLE combat. She wishes to meet Zavala on the battlefield. An assassin is cowardice and dishonorable. and secondly, Caiatl wants an alliance, and a move like that would almost guarantee the guardians would never work for her. I also remembered that the lore stated that the Psion who grabbed the info out of the prediction engines was labelled an exile, so that may be part of the reason why they acted that way. Also Crow calling out how Osiris is just as reckless is more than warranted.

I can think of another motive, but if I were right it would be very, very bad: As I mentioned previously, Amanda and Saladin have been talking some dark shit on comms, including overtly discussing attacking the Cabal directly (I recall a convo that went something like "We're Guardians. We guard; we don't invade." "Perhaps we should."). An assassination, whether successful or not, would certainly be a strong motivation for the Guardians to move against the Cabal, and then Saladin could have his war. Between the increasing prevalence of Savathun's song, and the growing divide amongst the Guardian leadership, I'm feeling an increasing sense of dread around those within our ranks. Obsession and Isolation: that's how we lost Eris and Ana to the Darkness in the other timeline, and I suspect it's how we're losing Saladin in ours.

I feel like Caiatl is pretty big on the whole honor thing. I'm pretty sure she'd consider the whole thing as cowardly and a dishonor to the Cabal race. Then she'd either hunt and execute whoever ordered the hit or bring them to Zavala in a show of good faith

Ikora knows about Crow. In chapter 5 of the 'From The Front' lore book, Zavala tells her what he saw. He broadly just says that 'we'd know if he was alive' and she looks at him and agrees... But she feels guilty as she says it. She fucking already knows about Crow and she's hiding it from Zavala! This poor guy was just nearly assassinated, is exhausted mentally and the one person he thinks he can trust is lying to him. Say what you will about the gameplay loop of this season but this is the most invested I've ever been with a Destiny story it's so good!

Could the hit have been ordered by spider? This situation does put crow into an uncomfortable position with Osiris and potentially Zavala
@pcachu3 жыл бұрын
Meh, this sort of tactic would be a bit too four-dimensional-chess for what amounts to a regional mafia boss. Plus the repercussions for being found out -- and if you're doing something like this, your cost/benefit analysis starts from the assumption that you WILL be found out -- do not benefit him in the slightest.
@beefmonstr46443 жыл бұрын
Spider is very careful about who and what he engages with. He has made a great tool out of the guardians, and has witnessed first hand the consequences of killing a vanguard. Spider gets away with what he does because he hasn’t made an enemy of the city as a whole. If he was discovered, he would be wiped out. I doubt he’d take that risk, especially with no immediate reward.
@pcachu3 жыл бұрын
And if you think he could let this sort of consideration slip for the sake of revenge, keep in mind this quote attached to the Fourth Mark exotic ship, the rare-drop reward for the "Coup de Grace" mission: "Vengeance isn't a destination, friend. It's a commodity. Make sure you're willing to pay the price before you enter the deal."

Crow did mention I think two weeks ago that there were some in the Cabal who are very unhappy with Caiatl attempting to fold the Vanguard into the Empire. This latest incident could be the cracks in the Cabal finally beginning to show, and one of the lore books had Saladin trying to force a Pison into revealing who created the Light-Disrupting tech. The story is getting very interesting. Whoever is in charge of creating the story for Season Of The Chosen deserves high props for the story so far. I'm just hope the next seasons have very good storytelling like this.

That cage is very much an assassin's tool, as I'm pretty sure that just killing a guardian with their ghost disabled wouldn't be a final death. They'd have to immediately destroy the ghost after, to keep them from just rezzing the guardian after the device failed. Couldn't really use it during combat with other guardians providing the disabled ghost cover until it can revive the guardian again.

I think it's worth noting that the Captain's Log we get from the Presage mission this week also implies that the Psions have been organizing independently towards their own goals, whatever those might be. Two of them commune with each other telepathically aboard the Glykon, and the one under Caiatl's banner simply walks away and allows the one working for Calus to steal the Glykon alongside Katabasis without reporting it. I'd say there's a decent chance it's related, given that they were both released on the same week. There's obviously something building up in the background right now and I can't wait to find out what it is.

I feel like our guardian should take Crow for a drink and have a long talk, after all it seems Guardian moved on when he released Uldren from Spider. Edit: Btw Crow really has a way of burning stuck-up guys. Before it was asking Saladin where he was during Red war and this time Osiris for his obstinacy that lead to the demise of Sagira.
