Nope, you just need to be grappling for a little bit before you can actually do the grapple melee

The Rapid Fire Ranger seasonal mod; it applies a 15% debuff when you crit an enemy from far enough away. This is why you can see me shooting him while he’s immune before damage starts and before 2nd plate on the 2nd floor

I think they use it to delay the door button so they aren't locked in

If you use the sticky grenade perk, you can shoot the door thingy and the impact will activate the door. After some time, the grenade will detonate and open the door again so that you can leave.
