Huge fan of Zavala beginning to break under the weight he’s shouldered for years its so beautiful narratively Edit (yappathon): To add on, we’ve obviously seen Zavala faulter before, with losing faith in the light and the Traveler after the Red War, losing Sloane and being reunited but her being completely changed, the loss of IO which was pretty important to Guardians, losing Cayde (obviously), losing Hakim, losing Amanda, watching humanity’s defenses be stripped bare like it was nothing (Rasputin, the Vanguard fleet, the Great Disaster, etc.), all of this being done with little to no intervention on the Traveler’s side. Continuing on, he was forced to confront the Nightmare of Safiyah which, even though he reconcilied and forgave himself in the end, was still probably deeply trauamtic. Then, of course, hearing about how the Traveler resurrected Savathûn for it’s own benefit and planning on leaving humanity to die. Group all of that with humanity and all of it’s allies being in a constant struggle to fight, losing almost anything and everything, one will get *tired* of that after a while. Zavala has been alive for hundreds of years, he is so exhausted. I literally did not expect it at all but I definitely should have because oh my goddd the narrative dudeeee

This. The Final Shape feels like a changing of the guard, as so many of the characters we know sound so...tired. They've fought for centuries, they'll fight one last time, but they all look and sound exhausted.

He supposedly accepted his past in the season of the haunted and even in the dark past we prevented he did not turn neither evil nor corrupted, so I believe it's gonna turn out alright. It's a good way to hype the expansion, but I think it would be awkward to see him fall to more trickery and illusions.

I think it’s such a fascinating story because we’ve been so focused on the Witness making Our guardian a Disciple, but we never thought of our Vanguards, Zavala who’s been broken down and everything he holds dear has fallen. It’s heartbreaking but such an amazing idea I couldnt have seen it coming.

One thing with Zavala, is I think he refuses to join the witness, and is forced to bend to its will. We see after the witness extends invitation a scene where Zavala is being pulled into the shadows by the hands of what seems to be Clarity Control (the person). So, it is completely plausible that we have to save Zavala, or fight against him while he is controlled by the witness.

Witness believes he knows "true pain" compared to what he's doing. His motivation is not being given a motivation. So now it's the final shape to end all pain, end change, end joy. That is true balance. His ideology isn't really concrete though. The witness should want to DESTROY the traveler to get rid of there gifts. They want purpose! To shape a future of there own!

Cutscenes quality already progressed incredibly with TWQ and LF, so this could simply be yet another improvement they made. But of course having Sony and their connections to other parts of the industry (and cinema too) definitely must have helped.

I love that you can tell it uses different voices for situations. When it’s on it’s own and doing it’s own thing like when it opened the traveller it was like kind of mellow but also excited. Vs when it yelled at callus it used a higher sharper voice. Like just the fact that it’s a combination of an entire race into one body is so creepy.

Ever since season of arrivals, Zavala was shown to be breaking down over time. This looks like the time he finally snaps :0

Turning Zavala into the penultimate boss of the campaign before we can face The Witness would be actually bonkers turn of events, forcing us to actually snap him out of it. He's the one who was always reserved about the use of Darkness. Always the resolute and rightcheous one. The good guy Zavala. It's poetic that it would be him of all people, who would get corrupted in the end to do The Witness' bidding. Because he was put through so much. Experienced so much loss. Had so much weight on his shoulders. He and Ikora were the two remaining leaders of the entire Human civilization prior to TFS. Cayde was gone and the Factions left the system. But it was him who didn't embrace the Darkness. He never did. Others eventually embraced it and learned Stasis or even Strand, but he was always the faithful follower of the Light. He never learned how to control the Darkness, because he blindly believed that The Light will provide. And that will be his undoing now, because he isn't prepared compared to Elsie or Osiris, to bare it without consequences.
